Default Clomid questions (1st timer)

Please help!!

I came home with 5 Clomid pills today; I'm anxious, nervous, excited, etc!!

I have a few questions:

1. I haven't had a period since Dec '08 so when I start taking the pills? I was told to start on CD 3 but obviously I'd be guessing when that is... has anyone had any luck with "guessing" when to start and it actually working??

2. I was told to come back on CD 20 for some bloodwork after having sex on CDs 11, 12 & 13... is this right??

3. Anyone have any suggestions, things I should be aware of, tips, etc?? I'm just so anxious to start!!

Thank you ladies!!!

Hi Chirleen!!
I'm just starting clomid too. Did your doctor not give you provera to induce a period? I would think just guessing when cd3 is would be wasting the clomid. I am taking provera for 10 days to induce then starting the clomid. Are you still taking metformin?

Hi there ... no Provera this time (I have been on it in the past but it was years ago) and I wasn't taking the Met as much as I should b/c I couldn't afford it since my hubby switched jobs and we were without insurance for about 3 months. It kicked back in on the 27th so I've started it back again like I should. The doc knew I hadn't had a period in a long time but yet he still prescribed the Clomid ... now I'm concerned that maybe it is a waste??

Hi

I'm starting my first session on Clomid too but not until DC on 4th December - i have my periods, but on a 40 - 50 day cycle, and it lasts for 3 days -very painful too! I'm living in Dubai, and our insurance doesnt cover this treatment, but you can buy most drugs over the counter, so i'm going to precribe myself - i have had PCOS for 4 years, been TTC for 3 of those - the UK just told me to lose weight and gave me no treatment, so this has got to help!

Will start with 50mg and see what happens - i do O some cycles, but seem to miss one out every other one. Have been humping like rabbits this month, according to the O Calcs, i'm due to O on Saturday so giving all we have got!

Fingers crossed for all of you out there TTC!
Let me know how you get on with the Clomid guys!

Hi,
You need a period to begin taking clomid. I'd go back to your doctor and have him prescribe provera to jumpstart AF. My Clomid expirience started off with headaches, then ovarian pain. It evened off untill around cd 12...then I started to have pregnancy symptoms, but that was all due to the increased estrogen caused by the Clomid. So, my tip is even if you start feeling "signs", don't get crazy until you POAS, or get the bloodwork pregnancy test. GL and Baby Dust!

Well my dod said I didn't need a period to start taking it, he said that was best case scenario but not necessary. I took it last week and am on CD12 today. Bding CD11-13 at least.

Will update after my FSH bloodwork on CD20...

1. You dont have to guess, CD1 is the first day of true menstural bleeding so just take it ont he 3rd day of bleeding. Your problem is you havent had a period for a while and you need to be on one to take the clomid, perhaps discussing enducing a period with a dr would be a good first step.

2. Thats a very general assumption that you will ovulate on day 14 ohh dr's love that blinking assumption after the bleeding stops make love either every other day or on average 3 times a week.

3. Nothing really to be aware of, clomid can cause headaches and moodswing as well as a basket full of minor side effects, do watch out for severe pain int he pelvic regeon as clomid can cause large cysts on the ovaries.

best of luck my love baby dust to you

Thank you for your advice! My doc told me to go ahead and take it on the day of my choice so I chose Nov 3rd and finished on Nov 7th. I started having severe hot flashes on Nov 12th and that same day I had an acne-like rash show up on my upper chest. Each day since it's gotten better and less noticable but it's still there. I spoke to the nurse yesterday and they have me scheduled for the progesterone blood work to be done this Fri (CD20 basically) but it frustrates me that it's based on a 28 day cycle and that's obviously not my case. Maybe they'll try to induce a period with Provera or something ... I've been on that before and it made me bleed for 6 weeks and it didn't stop until I was prescribed birth control 2x/day for 10 days. It was CRAZY and I really don't want to go through that again ... so I don't know, that may be why he didn't try the Provera this time around -- who knows?!?

Thanks again!

Ladies its your health ask for whatever you want from your healthcare provider!! Walk in and go I want this and don’t leave till you get it or a valid enough reason why you can’t have it. I was diagnose beginning of 2009 and by October I was on clomid and had a operation to check my tubes because basically I was just blunt and said “sort it out now” lol I can be pushy but it gets things done in the long run.

Cre 13 - sounds like you did have a side effect to the clomid and when you think about it its only natural that your body disagree with it slightly after all its not used to what it is receiving in the drug. The 28 day thing annoys me so much!! My last cycle before starting my clomid was 66days, I don’t think a blood test at day 20 would have worked somehow lol. I have been for my progesterone test on CD21 but I doubt it will show up much as I know I ovulated on CD 18. The assumption of a 28day perfect cycle has to stop I think.

Cansanford - enquire about clomid ask if there is a possibility of having it hun why not you are paying for the treatment either through taxes on the NHS or privately.

Just the hot flashes and rash on my chest ... I go in tomorrow morning to get my p4 results and to discuss options on getting my period back (Provera and/or D&C)... I have been charting for the last week or so and never saw a spike so I'm almost certain I didn't ovulate ... will let ya'll know what I find out!

How is everyone else doing?

I'm surprised your doc didn't induce a period with provera before starting the clomid. I have never gotten a period on my own so with each month I take provera before starting the clomid. I'll be starting my third round of Clomid as soon as I get my rear end back to the doc for some provera and clomid scripts.
