Default Clomid Unmonitored

Is it really unsafe to do a clomid cycle unmonitored? how do you know if you are "hyperstimulated" how is it handled?

I don't know if it is safe. I know that it is usually recommended that it be a monitored cycle with Clomid, especially for woman with PCOS, because they are at a higher risk of ovarian hyperstim. than other woman. But, I have never been on Clomid, so I am just basing this on what I've read.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

When I was on it, I was just told to take it. Litterly, handed the script when I told them I was having problems, and said here take this, it will help. That was 5 years ago. Haven't taken it since. I took it for almost a year max they put me on was 150mg, never had a BFP on it. HTH.

I am currently on clomid50mg.I do not get ultra sounds but I do get my blood drawn on the 21st day of my cycle.I had asked my dr about why they dont check it ever month today cause I had to get another round of clomid. She told me that not everyone will. They wanna see whats going in my blood first and if after a couple of months I still dont get a bfp than they will start u/s but every person is different. One of the main reason she is doing it this way is to save me more money.Another reason is I was already pregnant last year but ended in a m/c and when they did the u/s than everything looked good. But I also get my period every 30 days on my own.It all depends on the person. Also by how much you ovulate will tell you alot too.Like when I got mine done last month mine was 35.8 which is pretty good.A normal woman should be about 10 a woman on fertilty pills should be about 15.So by all means yes you should be monitored atleast with b/w.GL

My Clomid cycles have been unmonitored-- probably because the RE's office is an hour and a half away. I do have a day 24 progesterone test.

I buy my clomid on line and take it myself. My fertility treatments stopped being covered, so I bought it myself as well as the ov watch and just kept track myself. I know this isn't recommended, but my only hope really.

p.s. you would know hyperstimulation if you got it. The first month that my RE decided to do injectable I got hyperstimulated and ended up in the hospital.....It was horrible!

My OB didn't do monitoring for Clomid cycles except the P4 test to verify ovulation.

My OB didn't monitor me at all... I charted my temps, did OPK's, and used the fertility monitor in order to be pretty certain that I was O'ing on it. However, if I had run into a problem (severe pain, etc), I could have gone to see her. When I was about to move out of town, I asked for another script of Clomid and she wouldn't give it to me because I would not have a doctor for some time. She said it is dangerous to not have a doctor and to be on Clomid because hyperstimulation can cause some serious problems. So I would say that being unmonitored (under doc's care but not going for regular u/s or bloodwork) is different than not seeing a doc at all. As long as you have a doctor to see if a problem arises, you're probably just fine.

As for hyperstimulation... it is very painful, so you might know it by the severe lower abdominal pain. Usually they treat it by making you sit out a cycle or two (until the cyst is gone). I have also heard of people taking bcp to make it go away faster. If it's severe, you could end up in the hospital. That's why it's important to have a doctor to see if you run into problems.

I'm on CD 24 after taking my first round of Clomid 50 mg. I haven't ovulated according to my bbt chart and the opk, and I am not being monitored by my ob/gyn. However, the last few days I have noticed some twinges and small pains in my sides. Today, I have had dull pain in my pelvic area and cramping that has gotten worse throughout the day. My plan is to call the doctor tomorrow to see if she will do an ultrasound to check for any problems.

A lot of Drs wont moniter clomid cycles so no I dont think its bad for you not to be. However I would want to be monitered to know if I O'ed and what was going on. I had to insist on being monitered after a few unmonitered cycles and the RE still wouldnt besides a P4 so I moved onto injects and then another RE. Good luck!

6 years ago, I did two rounds of clomid unmonitored. The first at 50mgs, the second at 100mgs. I was told (by my OB) to take it on CD 5-9, and then BD on days 11, 13, 15, and so on. I did get pregnant on the second round, (confirmed at the RE appt. I made thinking that the clomid did not work) and DD is now 5 years old.
