I just found out last night that my hormone levels are indicating I have PCOS. I don't have most of the typical symptoms, except that I don't ovulate regularly (been ttc#1 since 01/05, had 2 m/c). I go back to see the Dr. Friday to discuss the options of Clomid or Metformin. I'm not sure which one to try first. My mother had difficulties getting pg as well, and she ended up on Clomid. Can anyone suggest which drug to start off on. I'm starting to confuse myself with all the info. I'm reading. Any advise would be apprectiated.
I go to the endocrinologist on April 19th and i also suffer from Hyperthyroidism and recently had my thyroid killed ....she told me back in 2005 that indeed i do have PCOS but told me she wasn't gonna treat me for that until she got my thyroid under control..well now that its killed ..im hoping she will go ahead and treat me for the PCOS ... will the Met help with the symptoms of irregular periods, mood swings, tiredness, sweet cravings, insulin resistance, facial hair, body hair,ect.... i also have light periods when i do have cycles wondering if that is because i have endometrial lining buildup ? and if the Met will straighten out that as well.all input would be helpful :-)
Why not see if he will give both the Met and the Clomid?? That is the combo that helped me conceive and stay pg with my last child. The Met did help with the sweet cravings, heck I lost 11 lbs in one month, and the Clomid made me ovulate and I got pg.....

I guess you have to be on Met for a while to have the sweet cravings go away? I am still craving sweets. I am not eating as much though. You said that Met and Clomid is the combo that helped you conceive and stay pg...does this mean that Met will not be enough to stay pg for some people? Just wondering. I want to get on Clomid if this is the case. I don't know if I can go through the loss of a child. That is rough stuff. Thanks.

Well iam through having kids sooo would i still need a combination of clomid and Met to help me with all of the symptoms? or since im through having kids i wouldn't need clomid? and just Met would work??
I have only been on Met since March 28, and my cravings for sweets has slowly diminshed over the weeks. The reason that I said that Met and Clomid was the combo for me was I had been on Clomid two times before and conceived each time, once a set of twins, and each pg was loss. I have heard that when you are on Met the chance of miscarriage goes down, and I think somehow that helped me stay pg. It may be that your dr wants you to try just the Met alone, which for some people it works, and maybe if that doesn't work, they will put you on the combo and see how that goes. I am NOT saying that everyone that uses clomid will miscarry, that is only what happened in my case.

Twilite......if you are finished having kids, STAY away from the clomid!! haha THe clomid is to induce ovulation and help people get pg (hopefully). So if you are finished having kids you will just need the Met.

hi
I am new to PCOS and just started Met on 3/28/06 just like seaglin. It is my understanding that the met should help you regulate your cycles. My doc is putting me on met for about 3 months before we try clomid because met works for some women trying to get pg without trying clomid. My doc also told me it might take up to 3 months for met to start working and the combo of met and clomid is more successful than clomid alone. So since it is pricey to start the clomid cycles i figure I should give met a try, although the side effects are kicking in and they are horrible. Also to twilite, metformin does make some women start to ovulate again and increases your chances of pg, so if you dont want a kid i suggest you have some form of bc. I have also read that you should stay on met for a little while after becoming pg because it will reduce the chance of m/c. Hope this helps and if you have any more questions you can send me a private message. Lubby23

oh yeah, I also dont have the typical symptoms of PCOS, i have slightly irreg cycles, although last month I did O all by myself and my cycle was 31 days, and my LH:FSH ratios were off. I dont have excess hair, acne, dark patches of skin, and am not over weight. I am slightly IR however, but hopefully the Met will take care of that and I will be blessed with a baby soon
