Default Clomid - why siz cycles ? And is there a limit on how many times you should try soy ?

Hi All

Thats basically my question.

WHY do doctors only give you 6 attempts with Clomid ?

Is it the expense ?

If its something to do with tolerance then if I try soy will it stop clomid working if and when I use it ?

Thanks

Hi!

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the dangers of clomid... I *think* it raises your risk for ovarian cancer if taken more than six times AND things like OHSS are a concern. There are multiple risk factors of clomid that increase each time you take it, but I do not know them all. I think people take soy to avoid the side effects and risks of Clomid (among other personal reasons, I'm sure). I'm sorry that I do not have more info for you. There are definitely people with more knowledge that visit this site--hopefully you will get responses from them, as well. If not, I believe there are some articles posted in various places here (I think in the medications section or TTC section) and on the internet that might be of help. Good luck!

Hi

As far as I know, there is a limited amount of tries with clomid because the doctors assume if it does not work on 6 times, then it is proven it will not work and then it is time to move forward to another type of ways to stimulate the ovaries.

As well, it is true any medecine taken to stimulate ovulation can cause OHSS so if it is not working, why take the risk.

Soy is a natural alternative, but if you are already on clomid, or any other kind of ovarian stimulation, I would not recommend anything ( even natural ) to help ovulation. I was taking vitex and had to stop while on Clomid and now on injectibles. Even if it is natural, any extra ingredient in the equation may lead to OHSS, so it is better to stick with the natural alternative if the infertility is not so strong and you are not in a rush, or clomid or injectibles.

Just what I know !!
