I have been clotting with my last few AFs!!!!! It's so frustrating and REALLY painful. It worries me due to the clots are not small or even medium sized. Some of the clots are bigger than when I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks 3 days. Now, I know this is pretty disgusting but one was bigger than my pinky and thicker. It's also frustrating because the docs just go "oh this must be normal for you," YEA only the last few AFs. I'm back on met at the advise of a new pcp. So my periods are evening out, I guess thats a good sign, they are still extremely painful though. Does anyone else have this issue? If so how do you deal with it?
thank you so much for your time

missy i've only been able to have a period on bc but when i did i had severe clotting. I even had to go to the dr. and he gave me pain medication. I couldn't even stand up straight. He said it was because I hadn't had an af in a long time and it would take a while for my body to get itself together. Nothing ever helped though. I find that a warm bath and I know it's a horrible thought but exercise helped with the clot size.

If you know when you are going to start you can take 800mg of ibprofen twice a day for 2 days before. I used to have that same problem and that is what the doctor told me to do. Hope that might help.

I've been having this problem, too! I have these huge clots that pass a couple times with AF and it's driving me a little crazy. I mentioned it to the gyno at my last checkup and he didn't think it was a problem. The clots started when I began using NuvaRing.

thank you all so much for replying. not to sound horrble but it's a bit comforting to know that it isn't just me, well i've known it but actually seeing it in writing helps. I'm constantly in the hot shower and have tried naproxen for pain during the 4 days i clot.i too have gone to the doc, during one of my af's they stuck me on vicodin (loratab) for the pain with it not really killing the pain, especially when i'd pass a clot.once again thank you all so much for replying and also for your thoughts and suggestions.

My AFs are really painful for the first couple of days - feels like my ovaries are being twisted around - and I pass pretty big clots. They're big enough that I can feel them passing and that always freaks me out. My gyn says that it has to do with my fibroid, but I don't necessarily buy that. I just know that its painful and gross and even 1600 mg of ibuprofen doesn't kill the pain. It's better when I'm on bcps, but not much. I just figure it's my corss to bear, so to speak. Hope you're feeling okay!

I pass clots during every AF. I'm currently on bc, but I had them before I started bc on the rare occasions when I would have AF. Sometimes I feel them, sometimes I don't, but I associate it more to a hymen that never broke as to why I can feel it. They aren't painful at all, I can just feel it while it passes and once it passes since I use a maxi pad (no choice since I can't get a tampon up there anyway!!!).
I always had clots with AF and lower back pain but never that bad (I have a high pain tol. so I never know lol). I associated it with being on bcp. Now, my AF is not clotty, more bloody, and heavier. My (new) RE said it sounds more like a "normal" period. She said when you're on bcp for a while you body adjusts. Could also be that I'm on met now lol.
hth.

hey mel hun, i have the same problem i have really big clots and when i went to the doctor he said ' oh its just normal' but when i have talked to my friends they say they have never had any clots at all, im not sure wot to do about them, i have a hospital oppointment 2moz, so hopefully they will be able to help and i will let you know if they give me a method to help it, take care xxxxx
The problem is that the blood is cloting you could try something a few days before to thin the blood and that might reduce the pain. I had to laugh when the doctor told me that, it might have worked if I had been able to track my cycles. I still cant, but I have tried to cut out coffee if I feel like I am about to get af. Makes it so it is not so bad, not sure why but it does make it hurt less. I drink alot of coffee and maybe that has something to do with why it helps when I stop.

I have clots alot with AF.... They are brown-black and theyre like nickel sized....And they hurt... Its worse when AF would be gone for months at a time. but i'm hoping the pill will help regulate it and it wont be so bad anymore.
I too have found my clots are worse when I haven't had an AF for a few months. Once I was without it for about 3 months, and I was told to get some progesterone to stimulate my ovaries and to release everything. When I did that, I started cramping and bleeding like crazy. I was dropping clots the size of quarters, I could feel them coming out. It was terrible. I bled through 4 pads in a hour, I was unable to dress that day because I kept bleeding. I was terrified. I called my doctor, and he said if it didn't let up within a day to go to the hospital. The next day it was normal again.
