Anyone else have these? I've suffered from them for 5+ years. I always thought I was having migraines, even though I wasn't sensitive to light, but about a month ago I was reading a magazine while waiting for a haircut and I read about cluster headaches and thought, "Hey, that's me!!!" Interestingly, they are thought to be caused by an abnormality in the hypothalamus - which is a cause of low LH and FSH levels! I wonder if there's a correlation?!

I had a room mate who was diagnosed with cluster head aches. He has to take medicine for it...and if he mixes alcohol with it it could kill him...and when he does gets these head aches he curls up in ball and just cries.. which is not like him because he's a very macho and ripped guy.
I'm so lucky not to have that. I rarely have head aches....

Wow, mine aren't THAT bad. They are just always in the right side of my head and are usually concentrated to one area, and it just feels like a knife in my head! It doesn't usually make me cry, though.

"I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him." I Samuel 1:27
The duration of the common attack ranges from as short as 15 minutes to three hours or more. The onset of an attack is rapid, and most often without the preliminary signs that are characteristic of a migraine. However, some sufferers report preliminary sensations of pain in the general area of attack, often referred to as "shadows", that may warn them an attack is imminent. Though the headaches are almost exclusively unilateral, there are many documented as cases of "side-shifting" between cluster periods, or, even rarer, simultaneously (within the same cluster period) bilateral headache. They are often initially mistaken for brain tumors and multiple sclerosis until patients are treated with corticosteroids and then imaged. Trigeminal neuralgia can also bring on headaches with similar qualities. However, with Trigeminal neuralgia the pain is mostly located around the "cheek" area and is described as being more lance-like in quality.
If you have that I'd consider seeing a doctor to get on preventatives.

I have cluster headaches every now and then. My husband, who is a paramedic, told me that they can be caused by release of histamines so taking an antihistamine like benadryl can help. Mine aren't that severe and taking benadryl has really helped. Hope that helps you!
I've always been a victim of sinus headaches and nosebleeds. Sometimes it really hurts, but it's relieved by allergy medications. The nosebleeds are the worse part.
