Has anyone added natural/pure coconut to their diet or added oil as a supplement to their diet to aid weight loss and improve hair/skin?
I've been trying research various herbs/foods I can supplement into my diet to help these ailments and I came accross a book online 'The Coconut Oil Miracle'. I haven't brought the book, I wondered if anyone here had or heard of it or tried it?
The synopsis says:
Use nature's elixir to lose weight, prevent heart disease, cancer and diabetes and beautify skin and hair. Can saturated fat be good for you? Natural coconut oil - not the hydrogenated version often found in processed foods - is a saturated fat, but not the kind your doctor has warned you about. Studies have shown that this uniquely curative oil actually has innumerable health benefits ranging from disease prevention to anti-ageing. Now, in his revised edition of the first book to describe the therapeutic properties of coconut oil, Bruce Fife offers a nutrition plan with dozens of tasty recipes that will allow anyone to experience the healing miracles of what he deems the "perfect food". When taken as a supplement, used in cooking or applied to directly to the skin, coconut oil has been found to: - Promote weight loss - Help protect against heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis and many other degenerative diseases - Strengthen the immune system - Improve digestion - Prevent premature ageing of the skin Previously Published as THE HEALING MIRACLE OF COCONUT OIL
I've read that coconut oil is really good for you. The article I read said that they gave it to cows hoping to fatten them up but they actually lost weight and the same principle applies to humans. I'm just not sure how much is needed to see benefits. It doesn't taste bad or anything its just kind of hard to use a lot.
I don't think that coconut milk would work as well as the actual oil. I've used it, though not the virgin coconut oil (that costs triple what the regular stuff costs). I wonder if there's much difference? I know that with the regular oil I still noticed a thermogenic effect that some gals here talked about with the virgin oil. But I didn't notice any really nice taste. It was just bland, which was fine for stir fries and such.

I use coconut "fat" (it's solid at room temp) instead of shortening in recipes, and sometimes to replace butter. In fact I just made pie crusts with it at Thanksgiving. I also like to use it for stir-frying. The stuff I've been able to find has been distilled to get rid of the coconut aroma, so it's totally neutral tasting. As far as anything else goes. . .I don't know because I am not trying to lose weight, just using it as a better alternative to hydrogenated oils.

I've been cooking with organic, unrefined coconut oil for about a month or so and it is really tasty. I always make my omelet in it and sometimes I use it in place of olive oil when I make pasta dishes but not always because olive oil is also good. You can get the organic, unrefined kind at Vitamin Shoppe - they are online, too, at vitaminshoppe.com. It's always best to eat this kind because it's the purest and closest to natural form. My colon therapist puts it in her oatmeal and she has noticed some fat loss. I have also noticed slight loss but I don't know if it is the oil or the fact that I am going to a trainer, eating mostly all organic, cleansing and juicing or the colonics - probably a little of everything.
I am an Indian girl and the coconut oil is being used in India for centuries. Even my mom makes organic and pure cocnut oil from the coconuts that are grown in our backyard. Nice huh? But, as for as I've heard, it increases the cholesterol. It's very good for the hair growth and am still applying it for the hair. Using it very sparingly sometimes for the seasoning. It's tastes awesome. I can't beleive whether it directly help in losing weight.
I blend e.v. coconut oil in with my protein shakes and I also cook m eggs in it...I have noticed weight loss when I am dieting and no weight gain when I'm not, however, I am on a mixture of herbs as well so I dont know if it is due to the coconut oil or the combination of the herbs and coconut oil
