I used to drink coffee without any problems, but now that I am on Met it makes my tummy very upset and have worse Diarrhea too. Does this happen to anyone else? Would using decaf help?

Never had that problem and and I'm a starbucks junkie. The only thing I can think of is are you drinking the coffee by itself on an empty tummy? That insulin spike brought on by caffeine by itself might trigger the side effects. I would just be sure that you always have caffeine with food.

Nope, both times it was with food. But I didn't know that caffiene spiked Insulin levels by itself, that's good to know!

It happened to me too! But it was just temporary. I think it might have been the food I had with the coffee more than just the coffee. I would try avoiding it for a week or so and then try again. It is hard to live without caffeine

Coffe can do that sometimes....and I agree with Christy...sometimes it can upset you if you have an empty stomach. I never had the problem with coffee and met though. I am an admitted Starbucks junkie too, but I am off it since I'm pg...they called the other day...they miss me and they wondered where I've been-I guess their last quarter's profits were down and it's all my fault. ( kidding)

i cant drink coffee at all. Even before the met. Or else I run to the loo......... if I drink too much tea I get to feel sick, so I guess it's something to do with the caffine. But I am ok on decaf coffee - but I read somewhere that it's not really healthy 'cos of the process to remove the caffine. Health shop coffee substitute is ok.

I had never heard that the process to remove the caffiene made it unhealthy? WHere did you heat this?

i haven't started on metformin yet and that happens to me when i drink coffee. i always plan to be close to a bathroom for about an hour after i've had a cup every morning, (i can never just drink it in the car on the way somewhere) because i know it just hits suddenly. i've heard that caffine can be like laxative, or can help bring on the effects of a laxative when taken together.
