Default coffee addiitives...

OK, I am a coffee LOVER... as if that's not bad enough, I am currently addicted to hazlenet creamer. I get the sugar free kind, but I am wondering, now that I have been diagnosed as IR (or pre-diabetes) and am starting Met... can I still have the creamer?

Does your body treat sugar substitutes the same as sugar, is it ok for me to eat/drink them... what about the Met, too? Will I get cramps or diarreah from sugar substitutes?

Do you mean the coffeemate stuff?

I follow the IR diet to control my sugars as well, and it talks about how sugar substitutes still affect our sugars because they are chemically identical to sugar and your body releases a small amount of insulin. So the book suggests making sure you have anything with sugar sub. with a little food so that your insulin has something to act on, and enjoying subs in moderation.

HOW much you have in a cup and how often you're drinking it is really the key...anything in moderation is doable, but if you're drinking 3 cups a day with 4 tsp of the stuff in it, that would be a more significant effect than someone who was having a tsp in coffee every day or two.

If you're having a tsp of the stuff every few days it wouldn't be a really big difference a tsp of Coffeemate Hazelnut is only about a gram of sugar, so it wouldn't be something i'd worry about very seriously.

Hope it makes sense.

Well... I am very ashamed to admit I probably do about 3 tsp, in a mongo cup... sometimes I have one of those, but usually, I have about 3 to 6... I KNOW, that's HORRIBLE, huh?

Wow, I think I'm going to go through withdrawls! Curse you, sugar substitutes! That just stinks!

Don't feel bad, your not alone.....maybe that is what I should be telling myself.LOL! I use the sugar free Hazelnut and French Vanilla w/ Splenda. I don't use everday.....but enough to say about several times a week. My mother is a queen at baking and she has made several things w/ Splenda. From cookies to pies to sweet tea. So you know...I don't know what is worse...endulging in Splenda or having a little of the "REAL THING." I also have to have a boost in the mornings, like to get ya going type thing and sometimes I do a diet coke.
