Default Coffee - good or bad for insulin resistance?

Hi,

I've read studies that said that people who drank 6 or more cups of coffee a day (decaf or regular) had lower rates of diabetes. I have also read that coffee (or perhaps caffeine) raises blood sugar and initially suppresses hunger, but also causes reactive hypoglycemia and cravings later on in the day. What are your experiences? Have you noticed differences in blood sugar after drinking coffee or not? How about the patterns throughout the day? Any advice from health professionals about this?

I'm going off caffeine for awhile to see if it improves my hypoglycemic symptoms that I get usually 2 hrs after eating, but I'd love some feedback from others....

hi arcticslug.i dont know about the diabetes but my mom's dr. told her to stay away from caffeine because it raises blood pressure. she has diabetes and high blood pressure. someone told me that coffee increases testosterone
levels. i used to drink a pot a day. maybe that is why i have all of this excessive hair growing in.

Everything I've read indicates that coffee possibly does help with IR, but it's no help if you're already T2. I've never noticed any difference in my numbers from the days I don't have any coffee to the days I drink the whole pot. Coffee and caffeine, to my experience, doesn't raise blood glucose, but the things you put in it sure can.

If you're plummetting at your two hour point try to make the carbs in your meal more complex or add more protein and/or fiber to slow down your body's absorption speed.

As for coffee and PCOS....I was just dx'ed today so I have no idea!
