Question Coffee + Met = potty??

Ok this is my second time aound on Met so I kinda need a refresher course on what foods for me to avoid. I know all about aviding the fatty, greasy, high sugar, and high carb... but what about coffee??

I had a very good breakfast today (scrambled eggs, turkey bacon)

This afternoon I went to Dunkin Donuts and got a medium hazlenut with milk and 5 splendas.

I also indulged in a cookie.

The result was several trips to the potty...

So I know it could've been the cookie but did the coffee play a role too? Just wondering what some other experiences have been w/ coffee and Met.

Thanks!

I know that my cousin who is also on Met. says that she can no longer drink coffee because of the reaction she got from it. I would think that if you want coffee maybe just do a small and see how that goes. And I'm sure the cookie just didn't help much! But I definitely know how that goes, all that good stuff is just too tempting. I am having a horrible time sticking to a diet course I am having a hard time just eating right now, so I feel that as long as I am eating something but I haven't felt like eating much lately!!

Are you in the market for wedding or other types of floral bouquets? Or are you in need of jewelry or even a new rosary, whether it be for yourself of as a gift?

I rarely drink coffee and had a couple of cups yesterday and it was the WORST met day I've had in recent memory!! I also had a salad at lunch so that didn't help matters.

Hey, so I'm getting ready to start Met this Thursday...I get up at 4am for work and have a cup of coffee (I have to have it, I work 13 hour days) Have you been able to figure this one out yet? If not, any ideas for caffine besides coffee?

hi

I've been too scared to try the coffee again!

I have been bad and indulged in sweets again which did lead to a upset tummy and one trip to the potty that wasn't too pleasant but I took Immodium right afer since I was going out to a friends house for the evening...

I have had caffeinated tea with no problem...

try the coffee and have some immodium on hand... or wait till the weekend/when u don't have work to try the coffee.

Good luck!

Hi ladies! I'm actually drinking coffee as I read this! I don't drink it every day, but I have about 6 or 7 times since I started Met (about 5 weeks). I haven't had any problems with it at all yet. I usually just have one cup and I have some sugar free french vanilla dairy creamer. Diet pepsi seems to be fine, as well. I think with a lot of these foods/drinks, it's all personal. Some things have affected me that haven't affected other people I know...I've also found that I can eat/drink a lot of things others can't. So I suppose it's all process of elimination for us. Good luck!!

I don't drink regular drip coffee, but I have noticed that iced mochas and mocha freezes do make the Met side-effects a little more pronounced...but so far, nothing intolerable.
As everyone's body will react differently, maybe try a cup of joe on a weekend when you are staying around the house?

Coffee makes a lot of people have to go to the bathroom anyway, so when you combine it with the GI terror that Met can be, that's probably why it's upsetting you.

I used to drink coffee every day (even on Met, and I was lucky that it didn't bother me) but when I developed IBS I had to go off of it because it was just too bad. The first few weeks/months without coffee were horrible. I felt sluggish all the time, and even now I often think "I'd sure feel better with a little bit of coffee" but for the most part, I'm now fine without it.

But being a little less perky is worth it to me if it means I don't have to crap 10 times a day

what about decaf coffee... does that have fewer GI side effects with Met?

I would think it was a combo of the two. Anything sugary would make me run for the bathroom. Caffeine did too but not as much. However, you said you put Splenda in it? I researched splenda because apparently it gives me migraines, and diarrhea can be common with splenda. I would try each by itself to figure out the problem.

Sarah- I don't think it was the Splenda that upset my stomach- I use Splenda all of the time in my tea with no adverse reactions...

snfr02chic- I see you may be TTC for a baby in 08? Good luck... While I didn't TTC very long nor expereince many problems, I knew I wasn't ovulating nor menstruating regularly. My dr put me on Met which I began on April 21st of last year. I very quickly lost weight (close to 20) and on May 29th of last year I got my BFP. DH and I were shocked that it happened so quickly and know how lucky we are. My daughter was born this past February. Good Luck to you!
