Just wondering whether anyone has tried Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) at all?
I have been really down the past few months and can't see a way forward. Nothing seems to make sense and I don't seem able to make any kind of decision to sort my life out. I'm depressed about being single, I'm worried that I'll never meet anyone and I fear that I will never have children. It doesn't help that I will turn 30 this year and always thought that I'd be settled by this time in my life.
A friend of mine has tried CBT and has suggested that it might help me.
I have done some research, but I prefer to get other peoples opinions rather than from a clinic who are trying to sell a product.
I am thinking of going to a private clinic as I am sick of the way the NHS have dealt with my PCOS and Ulcerative Colitis which I also suffer from. If I do this, I want to do it right and get the best treatment and someone's full attention which I will get if I pay for it. It's a lot of money so I don't want to rush in without getting your opinions first.
Hi ellieraine,
I'm going through CBT at the moment. For exactly the same reason as you. Plus to deal with eating disorders and things that happened in the past that i was letting control my life such as my parents divorce and my dads rejection and the lies that i had been brought up to believe.
I think that CBT is helping with some aspects but not all of them.
PM me if you need to talk.
Hugs
EL
I highly recommend CBT. It has helped me through the most difficult of times. It actually becomes a habit where when you think a negative thought, you right away try to find out the facts of the thought.
Also, I believe it is pretty normal to feel the way you do at your age. What people don't realize is that statistics show that those people who have persued an education usually don't get married until their mid thirties! You are actually still young!
In the past, women got married earlier for financial reasons. These days, people get married based on choice.
I used to feel that way and I went to see a councellor. She told me to get involved in volunteer events. This actually worked for me because it took my mind off of things and I met a lot of people.
Last year, I was having an evaluation for getting a certification, and the examiner highly recommeneded reading Dr. David Burns, New Mood Therepy. It really helped me. Google Andre Noel Potvin, he recommended it to me and he's an amazing guy.

Thank you for your replies, I have the number of a clinic near me that does CBT. I just need to call now and find out how much it is and then start saving! I am pretty sure that I will give it a go after my research and hearing your positive comments.
regina85, I have done an Amazon search on the book and have read the reviews and it sounds good. I'm heading into town later in the week so will have a flick through it and get myself a copy. Thank you.
I will do anything to try to improve how I feel right now.
