My Mood: Points: 1,473.79 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,473.79 | Colon vs. Ovary - possibly TMI Sometimes I have pain and bleeding when I defecate. The pain is in the right lower quadrant - very close to my right hip and sometimes it's before defecation and sometimes before and during defecation.
I went to a new gastroenterologist today and she suspects it's nothing, possibly a bit of a hemorrhoid is causing the bleeding. This has been a few years now and it comes and goes.
The doctor wants to do a colonoscopy to be on the safe side.
Does it sound reasonable that my right ovary could be the problem rather than the colon? I'd LOVE to not have the colonscopy if possible.
I don't even have a 100% PCOS diagnosis yet. My GYN was very suspicious and ready to diagnose me based on physical exam at the end of April, but ordered some blood work and said we'd talk at a f/u appt in June
Thanks for your thoughts. |

I'm not certain of all the details and what not of this condition, but she has horrible pains that start in her hip and shoot down her leg. My other coworker has the same thing except she gets the bleeding when she defecates. That's the only thing I can think of, I don't want to worry you or anything, just giving another possibility.
Hope you get some answers |

Sometimes within the front of the right side of your abdomen in between the pelvic bone and belly button (called McBurney's point) of you're having pain it could be your appendix. Best of luck!

With an appendisitis, it's a constant burning senstation on the inside and when pushed on relieves the pain. You have high fever as well as throwing up your toenails. ( son and ex husband/bestfriend both have had apendectomy.)
I would say more then likely a hemrroid, but be safe then sorry get the colonoscopy done. ( I would honestly suggest talking to them about the different things they can do instead of a tube up the back end. There are other test they can do to look in there...such as the pill camara!)

My friend had one and she said the worst part was the day before when you have to take the laxitives. The procedure itself she doesn't even remember and was feeling fine and well enough to eat right afterwards. Also my dad had colon cancer back in 2000 so he has a scope every year and he has said the same thing. It won't be nearly as bad as you think!

My Mood: Points: 2,601.92 Bank: 578.55 Total Points: 3,180.47 | Have the colonoscopy!!! There are many different things that could cause you to have blood in the stool-polyps, colitis, diverticulitis, ulcers (yes in the colon) even cancer-not to scare you..the "pill camera" is usually used to do a small bowel follow through, not used to look at the colon, unfortunately there is not a way to look at the length of the small bowel other than x-ray and the "pill camera". I work in Endoscopy and see these procedures all day every day and the pts do well!! Good luck!!

My Mood: Points: 15,876.78 Bank: 38,465.74 Total Points: 54,342.52 | I have had bleeding while defecating (almost always only during AF) since I started having periods at 13 years old. I'm 26 now and I still have that symptom. It's never been explained, and no one seems to be too concerned about it (except me!). My best guess in my case is that it's endo related. I don't have an official endo diagnosis but my doctor strongly suspects it.
I had a colonoscopy in 2006. I felt very silly about worrying about it after it was over because it was so easy. You do the prep at home the day before, and by the time you show up at the endoscopy center you're all cleaned out and soooo happy to get your IV because you're dehydrated from not eating and from taking the laxatives. The doctors and nurses are very professional, which is hard to imagine in that situation but it's true! I never felt embarrassed at all.
I had biopsies and nothing was found. That made me feel better, even though I'm young because colon cancer is so deadly. I think you'll be glad you had a colonoscopy afterwards: it's a great way to take away those worries of what if?
Please don't hesitate to PM me with any questions, even if you think they're embarrassing. I'll be happy to answer anything and everything regarding a colonoscopy. Lots of luck!

My Mood: Points: 1,473.79 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,473.79 | Thank you, everyone, for your feedback. I did go ahead and schedule the colonoscopy. I'm familiar with the whole thing from working in a hospital. I really don't know how I'll make it through the prep. Each dr has their own preference in terms of prep and I'm supposed to eat a low fiber diet for 5 days. That's the part I'm most worried about, but I guess I'll do what I have to do! |
