Default Color of AF??

I am curious to know what the heck is going on. I seem to be off a little with AF, but who with PCOS isn't. I am two weeks into my BCP and I have started this brownish spotting again! Beyond the fact that I am getting AF roughly every two weeks I start with this disgusting browinish stuff, not the red AF normally is. The red color usually comes within two or three days of this brown stuff. I was told that the brown was probably just old lining still shedding away. But because I am having AF so frequently what is left to be old? Does anyone else have this color discrepancy when they first begin AF? I am sure my DR is tired of seeing my name on his schedule for the day as I have had everything this past month, so I am wanting to wait on this. I just hate to go and find out it's normal.

Default BEWARE TMI

AF could be brown cause it's taking a long time to flow out of the body -- this happens to me when it's light/spotty and (TMI) mixes with cervical mucus so it comes out "chunky" but also very slowly. The brown is caused by the blood being exposed to oxygen while it travels down the vagina. I would only be worried if you're having lots of brown that's a thinner or more liquid consistency (I don't know what would cause that). But if it's brown and chunky, you're ok, just a bit "slow". Maybe taking baths would help a bit to flush you out...

i almost always start off with brown af, and often end that way too. i get some red in the middle of everything. the longer between afs, the more brown i get. my doctor wasn't very concerned with it. it's becoming less brown, now that i get af a bit more often. but it still happens. i think i'll ask again at my next annual (next month).

I sometimes have brown AF at the beginning but not always. I don't think it's really a reason for concern, but if you are worried, talk to your doctor.

I started noticing a brown "stringy" discharge once I started taking Glucophage about 2 years ago. I mentioned it to my endo and my gyn and they had no explanation for it. Since starting Spiro, I have more brown spotting (before and after the regular flow) which is making my overall flow longer.
