Question Combatting PCOS in the US vs. AU - Would love to hear responses

Hello everyone!

I am an American that has fallen in love with Australia. My husband and I are taking our third vacation there later on this year, but ultimately have goals to relocate there. It's definitely a big step, but we absolutely love the country, particularly the Melbourne area.

That having been said, one thing I am curious about is the differences in treatments for PCOS in Australia. For instance (and I'm seeking multiple opinions here, as I'm sure there is much variation!), how often do you see your doctor? And do you have to have a gynecologist prescribe medications and/or do pelvic exams to be prescribed medications or can you see your regular care provider for basic health check-ups? Also, what dosages of Metformin (glucophage; I'm not sure if there is another name it goes by) tend to be typical? How large of a prescription are you allotted and what is your refill times? Along those same lines, what is the typical outline for check ups down there (ie: yearly, etc.).

I'm really just curious to learn about how things may be different and/or how they may be exactly the same, and would appreciate any input you're willing to give.

Thank you!

Hi, Australia is a very beautiful place to live,

I am in qld and live in a small country town so my experience with drs could be a tad different to what is given in bigger cities,

I know when they were diagonising me i had to go to a gyno for exam, us ect. But it was my gp that gave me script for metfomin but i i got the generic brand diabex. but if u are wanting chlomid ect that needs to be given by gyno.

Also TTC every dr i have been to says i have to try naturally for a yr and then go to the specialist again (even tho they know i have pcos) but i think that is only cus im in a small town.

hope ive given u some help.
