Combining Western Medicine with Alternative Therapies?
I know there are quite of few who are doing stuff like IVF as well as pursuing alternative therapies (vitex, acupuncture, etc.).
Have you had any unexpected results? Do you think the combination of therapies is more helpful than just one or the other?
I'm starting on Metformin tonight in addition to the accupunture I've been getting. I'm hoping the metformin will give my body the additional kick in the pants to start working properly again.
Hope everything is going well for you in all our endevours to beat this thing!

Hi Montana,
Interesting question! I don't really have knowledge to share on the subject so this is mainly a "Bump up" for your question. It might help the next poster to know if you are taking herbs with the acupuncture or plan to (I guess TCM herbs)? It would seem to me that without the herbs you would have less worries about an unexpected or untoward result with the acupuncture and metformin -- but I don't know that for a fact.
How long have you been doing accupunture? And may I also ask, how your experience has been with acupuncture and what changes have you noticed since beginning acupuncture?
I hope that you get the both answers and the results you are looking for!
I started with accupuncture, have since gone on to include prometrium, and now clomid. I know the accupuncture helped with a cyst, because I could see the differnce in how I felt after I left the office to when I had arrived. I don't have any data to back it up, just following my gut

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference"
I've been doing acupuncture for about two and a half months now. I really enjoy it - it's very relaxing.
I've noticed several changes. My skin improved (although not as much as it did when I started Obagi a few weeks ago). Until very recently my feet and hands would feel cold to me. I'm not sure if that's because my hands and feet were colder than they normally are, or that I finally noticed that they were cold; one of the concepts in TCM is that women with PCOS have a hard time managing the cold/damp forces in our bodies and it accumulates in our feet.
I'm more crampy than I used to be, although I think it's an improvement over not being crampy and not having periods (I've had one since starting acupuncture, so far). I've also been moody, but I think a big part of that is processing pent-up emotions.
I'm not trying to scare you off or anything, these are just some of the changes I've noticed. On the bright side, I do feel better, health-wise. I sleep better (when I can sleep!) and I think more clearly now.
