I just wanted to remind people about it (like you can miss it in this country?). We've donated. Actually, DH did, b/c he pays enough tax to do the Gift Aid thing.
I know I'm hormonal (when am I not?), but I have been crying all evening whenever they show the little clips about what it's all for. My DH has been really concerned about me, b/c I didn't do this last year. I guess it's just a different time of month. (Time of month--that's a laugh. More like time of year.)
I am just on such a roller coaster tonight. Laughing during the funny bits, looking at this site and baby stuff during the boring bits, then crying my eyes out at the sad bits. Right now I feel sick that we were looking at a bigger house (we have a 2 bedroom right now) when there are people thrilled to own their own house, one that looked like a shack to me.
We've recently decided to start making more of our gifts at Christmas and birthdays charity related. I think I need to find a way to do more though.
I must admit that this year the scenes I have seen on TV have affected me more than normal. I always bake some cakes to sell and buy a red nose, maybe phone up and donate some cash, but this year I have taken it upon myself to have a major fund raising drive at work for Comic Relief. I made a Red Nose Day cake (see my other post for a pic!) which I raffled, held a cake stall, fined people at work who didn't have red noses or wore something red, persuaded the bosses to agree to auction a day off work and got my cousin to donate a short break in her luxury caravan in Norfolk.
We raised
430 POUNDS
Plus I work for the Halifax and they are matching the funds so it will be doubled!!!
Must admit, I feel really good tonight! The scenes are still upsetting, but I know I've done a lot of work towards helping them!
GET INVOLVED - IT HELPS!

I have to say that bit about the 75 year old man getting his first home built made me cry ....bless his heart .
I just wish we were in a position to donate right now ....but i will say I am starting a job on monday (first full time job im going to be sticking to in 2 years) and i said to Chris that this time next year when we are in a better position we are going to donate £1K im gonna set up a bank account and pay it in over the next year and then donate the lot next comic relief day
That is fantastic!! Congratulations on your hard work. I did see the cake. It looked great!
I really am going to do more next year. This year, I'm embarrassed to say I was just too caught up in my own problems (ttc, unemployed, PCOS). I will be doing more next year. If I don't, you have my permission to come over and beat me.
I am going to start volunteering at my local hospital (the open day is on Tuesday!) and going back to working in nursing and residential homes. At least that way I'm making some kind of contribution to someone. We've been making it a real point to donate to charity in a lot of wways lately. We bought Christmas gifts for kids who otherwise wouldn't get much, started sponsoring a child, give about £40/month to various charities, and decided to start making most of our gifts charity related. (I think I already mentioned that) We really support a lot of different things, but we try to make our gifts match the recipient's interests rather than ours. There just seems to be soooo much needed in the world. It just overwhelms me sometimes. I try to remember that every bit counts, but it just feels like it'll never be enough.
OK, now I'm getting a bit off topic and very depressing.
Jane, Congrats again. It sounds like you did a fantastic job.
congratulations on your hard work it was a great amount of money to raise.
I too watched Comic Relief and enjoyed it. I was proud of Graham Norton (an Irish man and his segment on Comic Relief) I was also proud of Bono and Larry Mullins from U2 in their sketch with the cast from Auf Wierdensen Pet. So there was an Irish contribution.
I was having a bad day myself last Friday but watching Comic Relief put it all in perpestive for me. There are always people worse off than yourself.
Tonight on the Late Late Show I watched John O'Shea from Goal a fantastic Irish Charity - his charity is going into Iraq. There are so many fantastic organisations out there and they are starved of money and yet so much money is being pored into war. It doesnt make sense does it?
Again Jane congratulations on your fund raising - I am proud of you girl!
Helen
