Default Coming off Met in the 2nd trimester

Posted this on the Pregnancy board too, but thought someone here might have some experience w/ this as well...

Just wondering if anyone has any feedback re: coming off Metformin during pg. I lost my first after tapering down Met in the first trimester (maybe related/maybe not), so this time was adamant about staying on 'til at least the 2nd tri. Am 19.5 weeks now and am down to 1000 mg (from 1500) and will taper down to 500 in a couple of weeks, then quit. Am feeling a little paranoid re: giving up the Met, but also worried that I've stayed on too long.

Has anyone experienced any problems/symptoms coming off Metformin the 2nd or 3rd trimester? How did you quit (cold turkey or tapering off)?

Thanks for any input!

Lynn

My Dr only wanted me to stay on it for the first trimester, but I managed to get an extra Rx and stay on until part-way through my second. I didn't have any side effects coming off, but I certainly was scared when I didn't have the extra support of the Met! Mind you, I was the same way with my progesterone suppliments; I was on them for the first trimester too, and then tapered off in the second.

Speak to your Dr about your concerns. I don't think you've been on it too long, and (as mentioned by Zlicius) there are a lot of ladies here who stay on it their whole pg without any ill effects. Otherwise, I think the first trimester is the most important for the Met to help avoid m/c.
