Default Comparing notes on Spironolactone

Hey all.

I started taking Spironolactone for excess hair 3 weeks ago. It'll take a while before it really kicks in , I know, but while I wait in Limbo I was wondering whether any of you who's been on it for a while could be able to tell me how long it took 'til you saw results?

And what was the results? Slower hairgrowth? Finer hairs? Or actually blocking of the hairs?

Much love,
Bil.

I find it lessens new hair growth with me, although in saying that I did notice last year that there was new peach fuzz in the temple area.. I couldnt give you a timeline on how long it takes as I am sure we are all different and it does different things for people. It needs to build up in your system so probably month or 2 months maybe. With me I have found that the spiro has stopped the hair growth on my back and chest although it still grows in the area between my breasts, I dont bother shaving it as it just grows back again. On my face it hasnt made much impact either, but that doesnt bother me.
Don't forget to post how it has worked for you...

Default spiro

I took it for a few years and I think that the main thing it did for me was to slow the hair growth some. I think that my hair was thinner as well, but not too much. I really don't think that it was a wonder drug. I haven't found any meds that help me with the hair growth.

Good luck to you!

Hi

My endo said that it takes 9 - 12 months to get to maximum result. My hair is still there, but not quite as much

I've been on Spiro since May & have not noticed any difference in any way. But I'll stick with it for a year. What dose are you on? I wasted months on 100 mg & my endo recommended going to the max dose - 200mg.

I have been on it since 1998.

It took time to really take effect, but I have seen incredible long term changes. My acne is gone. I will have breakouts around my chin right around the time of my period, but that's it. My pores are smaller too. Also, the dark facial hair stopped growing in, and became finer and lighter. Now, I do have thicker hairs than normal on my chin at times, but they are almost transparent blonde. Very hard to see, but not so many that a good tweeze won't take care of them. My brows are normal too. No more monobrow.

Arm hair is normal, leg hair is normal, scalp hair is back to healthy normal.

So, while my excess hair symptoms were never extreme, long term use of Spironolactone really made a difference in it as well as my skin condition.

hi everyone --

i have been on 200mg of spiro every day now for three years. it took awhile (9 to 12 months) before i could really notice a difference. i have heavy facial hair and before i started, the hair was black and very noticeable on my light skin. i spent an hour per day or sometimes, two or more hours, plucking the hair on my face. i plucked from mustache area, chin, cheeks, sideburns, and neck. i feel like the amount of hair did not really change but the improvements i experience are the slowing down of the regrowth and the color change. now i have just the occasional black hair. now most of the hairs are white or colorless. for me, this is an awesome change.

of course, i would prefer to have all the extra facial hair go away, but if i can't have that... this is a great improvement over what i had before.

the only downfalls of this drug for me are that i tend to get dehydrated with it. if i don't consume enough water during the day, i get leg cramps at night. also, you are supposed to be very careful about not getting pregnant on this drug.

hang in there for the long haul. i am sure you will see an improvement of some kind. i tried vaniqua before and it did nothing for me, except delete money from my wallet.

I was on Spiro for about 4 years. It did slow down growth, but was not the miracle drug I was hoping for. Now that I've been off of it for about 6 months, I have noticed that the hair is thicker than it had been. I'm opting for laser!
