Hi all!
Oka, here is why I am conflicted. I was diagnoed with PCOS when I was 23 (right after my mom died), I am 29 now and have been on an almost holy grail like mission trying, hoping and praying that I would find a doctor that would listen and help me.
I found a doctor (OB_GYN) at Riverside hospital in Columbus, Ohio and she is great, very patient and willing to listen. However, she keeps pushing the glucophage and I don't feel like it is working and her nurse keeps insisting that they feel it is the right thing for me. I stopped taking it and 2 months later I started my first period in 2 years and I started another period 29 days after that. Should I continue with the glucophage or should I keep seeking help. I have never had an ultrasound or any kind of tests after the initial diagnosis and I am feeling very "let down" by the medical profession as a whole right now.
About 2 years ago, I started to feel like I was pregnant, I took 3 pregnancy tests and they were all positive. I was elated to say the least. I want children more than anything, anyway, I called my ex-gyno and her nurse (without doing any tests, said congratulations you're pregnant. tey set a due date and set up an OB work up. 2 weeks later, i went for my workup, I was thrilled, the nasty tech said who told you you were pregnant? I told her the doctor had and she said, well, there is nothing in here. i wanted to die. I was confused and dazed and hysterical. I started a period just a few days later.
I found this new doc and she explained to me that I had a chemical pregnancy and that she was sorry no one bothered to explain that to me. I was told by the old doc that I was being overly emotional and irrational by not taking the higher dose of clomid and provera.
Anyway, safter all of that , does anyone have any advice, i am almost to the point of seeking a doctor to perform a hystorectomy on me, I am just weary of the fight with this...
Thanks,
karen

Karen: Your story is just heartbreaking and I am so sorry you have had to go through all of that. It is no wonder that you are feeling let down.
I think without bloodwork, there is no saying whether met or ANY course of action will help. Unless you know where your hormones are at right now, there is nothing to say if you are improving or not.
I hope you'll reconsider a hysterectomy. It is a very drastic measure, and it brings with it a new set of hormonal concerns. Use your feet and keep searching for a Dr that will listen..I had to see 6 before I found one that took me seriously and didn't blame *me* for my situation.
Please feel free to post here anytime...most of us here have been through the revolving door of the health profession and have "issues" with the medical system, and I hope we can extend the support you need.

Sounds like a familiar story. Keep looking for a Dr. that will listen. I finally found one , she's a Family Practice doc and she is GREAT!! She immediately sent me to a RE and he Dx'd me and put me on met!! It's been great.
PLEASE, PLEASE DON"T get a hysterectomy!!!!! You must find a doctor that will work with you, they are out there!!!
God Bless. Pam
Metformin/Gluc can turn your body around. It's quite possible that the cycles you had were the result of the months on Gluc and just happend after you stopped taking the pills. I really think that some additional bloodwork is necessary for your case, and often an endocrinologist (particularly a reproductive endo) is the most interested in thorough testing. This should show how dearly you need treatment.
I was shocked to get cycles and eventually ovulate (!!!) without fertility drugs because metformin and low-carbing were what my body needed.
Have you had the father of your future children tested for any fertility issues? Any doctor prescribing clomid should test the husband before putting the woman through that.
Best wishes, and it CAN happen,
Sheri
