I am almost certain I have PCOS...
well, I haven't had a period since I was 16 (but i'm not that bothered about that lol), i'm now 19. I'm slightly overweight, which hasn't changed more than a few pounds in either direction for some time. I have excess hair on my stomach, lower back, under my chin and on my upper lip.
And i'm a bit depressed to be honest.
The reason i'm conflicted, is because I have social anxieties.. I don't like leaving my house and doctors scare me - especially the part about that internal exam!
Is it necessary to get this diagnosed?
I've been researching a lot and it would seem doctors don't really do much besides prescribe the pill (which i'd rather not take) and things for symptoms.
So I was wondering also, if anyone has a natural herbal treatment plan - to go along with diet and exercise - where I can easily buy them from, such as Holland and Barrett?
All help and advice is very much appreciated, thanks.
is there a dr you could see? i see a lovely lady gp, who is great. I got dx by the gynae clinic, with blood tests. I had an internal scan, but im sure you could explain to them how you'd rather not be examined in that way.

It's not necessary for a diagnosis, but it is part of a preventative care for women, in general.
Dx is necessary. Metformin is the ONLY thing that has worked for me. I've been dealing with this for 25 years and have been been treated with everything. Metformin...do it.

While it's the right choice for some people, it's not for everyone. Best to get a diagnosis, and discuss all options with your doctor based on your particular circumstances and goals.
You sound exactly like me! Symptoms since 15/16, diagnosed at 19 (self-diagnosis first) and suffering from anxiety.
I urge you to go to your doctor, take a friend or family member along if that will help, and write a list of the things of want answers to so even if you can't put it into words you can give that to your doctor. When my anxiety set in, I had my partner make the appointment, put me in the car and walk me inside. When I was there it wasn't so bad and I went into the room with the doctor alone.
Ask about medications, but also remember that there are plenty of changes you can make to your lifestyle that could have a huge impact on both your anxiety and PCOS (regardless of whether they are linked or not).
