Question Conflicting Stories..Please help...

I am currently on 1500mg Metforim, and I take it with lunch and dinner (I don't eat breakfast). I was getting ready to take it in the middle of a meal, when one of my friends said "no" you must take it 1/2 hour before a meal, or with the first bite. Is this true? I thought you could take it anytime.

Also, what happens if you miss a few days, should you go right back at it or start gradually? I am terrible at remembering pills so somtime I only take 1 a day.

Thanks for the input.

I usually take my pill when I am done eating that way I get up from the table and don't eat anymore. I don't have whole lot of side effects, so if I miss taking all the pills one day I get right back to the regular routine the next. I think the 'taking them gradually/building back up' is because of the s/e's.

Yeah, I seem to have better luck with my XR if I take it in the middle of a meal rather than at the end of one. I've never tried it without eating because I've heard you can get heartburn from doing that. I hate heartburn!

I can testify that I got MASSIVE heartburn when taking the XR at night a few hours after supper. I started taking it just after I eat, and I'm doing MUCH better.

With regular Metformin, I stayed sick all the time, so it never mattered when I took it.

Default Hope this helps

I was told by my doctor to take it with my meal. She said it would help the side effects. I am on Gluc XT though, but I would think it is the same. Also check your bottle of pills, it might say take with food or milk. Hope this helps. If you habe any other questions ask your pharmacist, they should be able to help.

Take Care,
Jen
