Bree ~ Yes, it is all very confusing. My understanding is that the elevated insulin levels from PCOS can turn into diabetes. You go from being insulin resistant to being diabetic eventually.
My story ~ I am on gluc/avandia and since my meds have been adjusted I have been having cycles on my own, O'ing on my own and my sugars have been wonderful. I have also been low carbing to help things along. Did you start out slowly on Gluc and work your way up? I had a few tummy troubles when I first started out on it but it went away after a few weeks. Maybe you were on too much too fast? I always have tummy troubles for a few days when my dosage is adjusted too. I believe the 2 are hand in hand and make a vicious cycle. You have high insulin b/c of PCOS which causes all kinds of problems with hormones and then diabetes causes more problems on top of that. I had to go through 4 endos til I found one I liked. As far as reversing symptoms ~ I used to have that arcanthos negricans ~ dark skin behind neck and other places on my body ~ all gone. I NEVER had cycles on my own til I got on the right combo of meds. Never O'd on my own w/ out the use of fertility drugs. So from my point of view ~ most of my symptoms have reversed. I guess I will always be diabetic now but hope to manage it by diet alone eventually when I am able to lose enough weight.
Hang in there!
Sherry
