Hi, I'm 35 with a history of irregular heavy periods, increasing facial hair in exactly the area where men grow beards, the hair is fair but is very noticable to me. My hair and skin have become increasingly greasy and I have put on a lot of weight and have trouble losing it. I went to my gp who ordered bloods, CBC, fasting glucose, thyroid, testosterone all of which he said came back normal.
Now I am at a loss as to why I have these symptoms. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi,
I just wanted to share with you that I was diagnosed with PCOS after several rounds of "practically" normal labs. The only thing that looked out of whack was testosterone, and that was only very mildly elevated. My doctor DX me based on the symptoms, and put me on Met right away. It has been a miracle for me.
Although most doctors would disagree with me, I think there are two "normals" for lab results. The first normal is what the average person should be, and the second normal is what is appropriate for YOU. I don't think those two are always necessarily the same.
Met has improved my life so much, but if my doctor only went off my lab results, I probably wouldn't have been put on it.
Consider challenging the results of the labs if you don't agree. You are the expert on yourself.
Good luck!
Amanda

Docs dissagree on how to diagnose PCOS. If you have all those symptoms you probably have PCOS. My labs were all normal expcept for my IR (mildly IR, but have a lot of symptoms of IR) and one other I think.
Hi! My labs always come back "within normal limits", but ultrasounds show that I most definitely have PCOS. My b/p has been elevated for me the past few months, but it is still within normal, so they're telling me not to worry about it. I've been on met for about 2 weeks now, and it seems to be helping.
