Can you not get someone to go with you, your partner or a close friend who might give you a kick up the bum to be more assertive? Writing everything down is a good thing for you to be doing if you think you're going to sit there and go blank and the doctor honestly won't mind that you do this

yes my partner would come with me if I asked him, he normally has to give me a kick up the backside to do anything lol. The last doctor I saw, I told him that I had been reading up a lot about PCOS, I asked him if there were any medications to control any of the symptoms and he said no there wasn't. I think i am half expecting this doctor to say the same thing. I think I should stop thinking so negative but I just can't help it.

Wee I think you know from reading this board that there is plenty of medications that can control the symptoms of PCOS. I definitely think you've done the right thing changing doctors!

I just hope that it is the right doctor I have changed to. Would you tell the doctor of the medications you have read about? How would you go about it? (it has just taken me twice as long to write that lol, my puppy decided she wants me as a chew toy!)

I would say the first thing you should be getting them to do is a glucose tolerance test and getting you back on met if needed. Mention that your last doctor prescribed XYZ but it didn't work and is there anything else you could maybe try? If they say no then say I've read some people are prescribed a drug called XYZ, would that be something I could try?

Yes, by all means take your notes/question sin with you on paper! I alway do, because I always go blank otherwise!

Good luck with getting to see a GP - sounds like you're determined enough, which is great. It took me quite a few GPs before I found one that would listen, so don't give up!

xx

yes i actually feel more determined than i ever have. i feel a lot more confident than i ever have too as i used to just hide away and feel embarrassed about the symptoms i have. my fiance said he will go in to see the doctor with me so that is making me feel a lot better. i feel like i just wanna sit in the doctors office and not move until he decides to help me. thanks for your support i will keep you updated xxx

hiya just thought i would update... went to the doctors this morning. it went quite well i think. i spoke to a female doctor and she just sat and listened to everything i had to say. i told her what i knew and what i had been told etc. she told me that pcos was not curable but there was things that could be done to help with the symptoms. As soon as she said that i felt relieved! she's arranged for me to go back in 2 weeks for blood tests and then a week after that to discuss and see if metformin is the best treatment so fingers crossed!

Leanne - that's great news! Well done for going in and saying everything you needed to say. SOunds like you have a forward-thinking GP if she is already considering Metformin. (I haven't got my GP to that stage yet!)

Fab news - let's hope this is the start of your health being back to what it should be!

thank you i'm glad too. i'm glad i went through with changing my dr now too! got to wait like 4 weeks before i get any results but hopefully worth it. Even my fiance came in with me and got involved which was so unlike him! one thing that is really bugging me atm is the tiredness and need to sleep even though i am sleeping normal. i don't know if i have asked before but does anyone experience this or know how to overcome it?
