Confused about Hormones, Estrogen & Progesterone For most of my life I have had a regular period. In the past few years I developed hypothyroid and at the same time my cycle became a little irregular. (My gyn considers I might have PCOS, but all the blood tests have come back normal.) I started to skip two months or so of my period. So my regular doctor gave me Progesterone cream to get my cycle going. And it did a little too much. I only used an extemely small amount and then I was on my period all the time for several months.
I went back to the gyn who gave me estrogen for a week in which I immediately felt better. But after that wanted me to start Ortho Evra every week non-stop to have no periods at all. Instead, the moment I started it I have pretty much been cramping and bleeding (though mostly lightly). Its like I'm on a non-stop period for two months. So he gave me an estrogen patch to go with it which immediately calmed it down, but still having a bit of period. Which is not good since the point was to have no periods at all.
Im utterly confused about Estrogen and Progesterone. First I though PCOS was considered estrogen dominance which meant no periods in general. Whereas I seem to be having too much period...would that be Progesterone dominance? My doc still wants to treat me with Progest cream and my gyn wants estrogen which makes me feel better. I just want to figure out why my homones are topsy turvy and get on the proper hormone balance. |
