I was diagnosed with PCOS about 6 years ago, I still have a hard time losing weight and constant cravings for carbohydrates. I just learned my hemoglobin H1ac is 5, and my fasting glucose is in the 90's, does this mean I'm not insulin resistant and should not be taking metformin? Or does this test not necessarily prove that even if I have all of the symptoms?

No. A fasting glucose won't always give you the answer. There is something called either a glucose tolerance or insulin tolerance test. I can't remember the name. It's where you eat a larger carb meal and get tested within a certain amount of time after to see how quickly your insulin is working. I have never had this test but from what I have heard it will better test for insulin intolerance.

Its a GTT (Glucose Tolerance Test). You'll go for a fasting draw, then have either 2 or 3 more draws.
You will drink the glucose drink and an hour later have a draw done. Then an hour later another draw.
