Default confused about treatments

ive had my scans and blod tests and am now just awaiting my next appointment to get my results. However, on my first consultation with my gynaecologist she said it was almost definate i had PCOS due to my symptoms. Unexplained weight gain which i cant loose, excess hair, acne/cysts on my face/chest, tiredness, dark spots and completely irregular periods!

anyway from all the reading ive done, it seems that the treatments are targeted towards those who are trying to conceive, im not! I get really down about the weight gain and acne and hair on my chin that resembles a beard but what really can they do for me! I already follow a really strict sensible diet and dont want to go on the pill as this usually makes me put on more weight!

what else can i do?

any advice/ alternative remedies appreciated

If not trying to conceive you can be placed on Spironolactone which is to help regulate those hormones. You can also be placed on Metformin which will also regulate things like menstrual cycle and help you get control of your weight. You may be give provera to keep your periods coming. A lot the treatment is universal whether trying to conceive or not (except the spironolactone). You won't be put on fertility drugs like clomid or injectibles because you're not TTC but balancing meds are likely.

Be sure to check out other areas of the board such as alternative meds, and the met section et-cetera. At first it will seem so confusing but in no time you will start to feel you have an understanding and are capable of dealing with and controlling this syndrome.

No, treatment is definitely not just geared toward those trying to conceive. There are so many options that are available to you. The cyster above said it perfectly, check out all the treatment forums and you will find tons of information! Good luck and Welcome to SC!
