Default Confused and fed up

Ok....here it goes. I have been having symptoms of hypothyroidism for years. I have been tested numerous times by my family dr. (she "swears I have a thyroid problem" based on my symptoms etc) but my levels all come back normal. I have been seeing an endo since May of 2003. I also had testing done at that office and was told it is normal. I am not sure of the exact numbers....but they did TSH, T3 and T4. But I was told I had a goiter (noticable just by looking) I received basically no treatment and was told to come back in 6 months. Well....I decided to go back to my family dr about the goiter since the endo did no follow up tests to see what exactly was going on. My dr ordered an ultrsound and I have an enlarged thryoid with a nodule on the right lobe. She faxed everything to my endo to see what she wanted to do about it. (biopsy...etc) Instead of even contacting me they said they would see me at my 6 month checkup. grrrrr So basically even after almost 8 months of metformin, losing 34 pounds and eating low carb I am feeling pretty crappy. Very tired(only reason I am still up is the 3 hour nap I took earlier...lol), hair is still falling out like crazy, dry skin, cold and numb feet and sometimes hands, and a body temp that is never over 97.4 . I am not sure what to do next. Any suggestions?

If I were you I'd try to find a more thyroid-friendly endo. Here is a list of recommended thyroid docs for the state of New York:

Thanks for the replies. I will try to get my lab results and post them. (If I can remember. LOL) That is another of my problems. My memory for things like that and appointments....etc is not as good as it used to be. Anyway, I am not sure why she does not want to treat me. Maybe she is afraid of stepping on someones toes. Thank you for the list of NY drs. The closest one to me is about 3 hours away. I wish we had more choices up here near the Canadian border. I will try to keep you posted on anything that I find out. Thanks again!!

2sweet,

For me it has taken getting B12 injections + adding oral progesterone to my lineup to start feeling halfway human again. I would recommend both to you.

My endocrinologist actually gave me a prescription for B12 injections because I kept complaining of fatigue. I'm very glad he did, because he saved me hundreds of dollars going to an independent office.

It's not hard to inject yourself once you get used to it too.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for the reply. I will talk to my dr about the B12 and see what she says. I see a neurologist on Monday to see if any of the fatigue and other symptoms I have are do to anything in that area. I had an abnormal Brain MRI and my family dr does not know what it all means. So....off to another dr. lol Maybe I will find out something though.

Sublingual B12 (dissolves under the tongue) is available and can be used by some people instead of B12 injections. I did a lot of reading about that and made the switch from oral to sublingual a couple of months ago, and noticed a big difference in my energy levels.

Sublingual is definitely better than oral, but it took injections for me. My energy level was so low that I needed immediate, almost perfect absorbtion. I would still recommend it to anyone that needs fast results.
