Default Confused girl says Hello...

Hello to all, I have just discovered this wonderful forum and have to explain to you all my situation as Im very confused...

I started on the pill when I was about 15 years old cause my periods suddenly became very irregular, I wouldn't get one for months at a time .. My gyno told me the pill would help me out and regulate my periods. I went on the pill and it did help and regulate my periods but I went through so many because of them not 'suiting my body'.. Yasmin, Microgyn 30 etc.. I finally discovered Minesse which was excellent for my body (stopped weight gain, migranes etc) but it was then discontinued because over here they only sell pills with a certain higher level.. no low dose pills.. ridicolous I know
(Im from Britain but living in the Middle East)..

So, I then came off the pill (because of not being able to obtain a suitable one for my body) and my gyno said we'll try and see if my period will come naturally after all these years.. (im now 20).. I also heard some bad stories about being on the pill for so long? is this true? (My gyno said no worries..) Anyway, I came off the pill and didn't recieve my period for 5 months.. boy was I scared..

Thankfully a family member has made a trip abroad and been able to bring me over the low-dose pill - Femmedette..Im hoping my period with get back to normal once im back on this pill (I start it in 2 weeks)..

Basically my concern is, I spoke to my gyno about my irregular periods and my worries.. She simply told me, im in good health (*knock on wood*) and that I have just 'THE SYMPTONS of PCOS' but not the actual illness... I have been researching on the net and came across this website and was hoping you lovely ladies could help me out... Have any of you heard or been told this, just having the symptons? Could this evolve into later having PCOS? My family generation on my mother's side didn't have PCOS?

Im very scared... I asked my doc. what would happen when I want to get pregnant and if this means im infertile and she simply said 'no', being the pill is good for your body as well as your 'preserving your body and keeping those organs preserved'.. - those werent her exact words but you get my gist .. She told me that when I want to get pregant and I should be able to just come off the pill and hopefully get pregnant and if needed take some medication to aid it... She seemed so causal about everything!

Do you think I should get a second opinion.. ?
Please help!!

PCOS, being a syndrome by nature and not an actual disease, is entirely made up of whatever symptoms you have. If you have x, y, and z symptoms of PCOS, then yes, you do have PCOS. There's no in-between and your doctor is mistaken.

Being on BCPs can help you stay healthy since it's a method of suppressing your PCOS symptoms - and as far as long-term use is concerned, I don't think you need to worry - but definitely get a second opinion. It is very possible to come off BCPs and get pregnant with or without the aid of medication, but you need a doctor who will definitely diagnose you and make sure you're healthy now!

I don't know what kind of things you have in the Middle East for alternative treatments, but there's a great forum here for that kind of information, if you're finding it rough to use BCPs for whatever reason, not being able to find them, etc.
