Default Confused PCOS?

For about the past 4 years I've been see my doctor about certain things that were bothering me, and he suspects that I have PCOS but has not been able to diagnose me due to negative test results.

My confusion is that I seem to have most the symptoms but they cannot find a reason for this to be happening. Im losing my hair, I have hirsutism, Drastically irregular periods, suffer from depression and have acne and I'm overweight (although I have lost alot of weight which proves to me that I am capable of losing it all and do not see this as a symptom, rather just a bad habit I've been in). But strangely enough, tests show that I do not have any cysts and that my hormones are of a normal level. They dont see any chemical reasons for the depression bouts I have either.

Just wondering if anyone could shed any light on this for me.

I'm starting to wonder if I've done this to myself psychologically.

Hi sorry you are going through all this, my question have they tested you for cushing's? it has alot of the same symptons as PCOS? the acne, hirsutism, irregular periods, my doc ruled that out first through a 24 cortisol test.

It took my body a few years to show the test results that went with the symptoms. Nothing more fustrating than knowing you have something and not getting the results that you need. I wish I knew how to make them show up in lab work but I don't- keep trying.

My doctor said my hormone levels are only slightly off and dx me on a presumptitive basis. But I'm more and more convinced as I learn more about PCOS. Good luck getting your dx!

Have you been tested for Insulin Resistance by checking either you fasting insulin or your insulin during a glucose tolerance test (or both)? Also, is your doctor going by what the lab says is normal for your hormones, or what PCOS experts say is abnormal? This link will show you two good sites that explain what lab results may indicate PCOS. Guide to understanding Lab Results for PCOS...

Hi Gals,

Last night's appointment didn't shed any light on anything. I have been tested for insulin resistance in the past and to be honest I cant remember what my results were, this was done.. i think 3 years ago? I asked last night if there were possibly any more tests he could run on another blood sample but he wasn't too keen on the idea because he said for him it'd be like stabbing in the dark because it's really beyond his help, and suggested I speak to someone who has more of an idea in this field.

I have been to two women's health specialists in the past and both of them read the results of the tests my GP had done, and then told me to come back when I'm older and they'd look at things then, and to lose weight in the mean time.

I dont really know what to do. Hmm. It's hard aswell because I work 9 til 5, which are all the clinics trading hours.

To this day, I've never had an abnormal lab test. Yet I bled for two years and the docs couldn't/wouldn't discover why. Just b/c something doesn't show on a standardized blood test doesn't mean it's not real!

You could ask for a copy of you bloodwork results and compare them to the lab results info at Guide to understanding Lab Results for PCOS.... I always get a copy of my lab results every time I am tested for anything. I have pathology reports, bloodwork results, everything.

I agree with Josie. Sometimes it's not just the levels themselves, but the levels in relation to one another. If the ratios are off, that's indicative of PCOS I believe (but it's been ages since I had any bloodwork done, so don't quote me on that!).
