Default Confused, please help :)

After a year of infertility and being seen by a fertility specialist, I have been diagnosed with PCOS. After 3 months of clomid and IUI I was lucky enough to get pregnant. I unfortunately miscarried at 5 1/2 weeks (that was the weekend of Nov 30th), it's now December 20. My HCG levels when I first found out that i was pregnant were at 24, a couple days later they were up to 87. The weekend I miscarried they went down to 40, a few days later 25.13 - a few days after that 25.83 -- a week after that 32!! What's going on? Why could my levels be going up?? Shouldn't they be decreasing?? I should also mention that in the last week I have been experiencing ovulation-like discharge with a very little of blood (specks in the discharge) as well as the regular ovulation cramping that I get.

I'm just curious about what COULD be going on and whether or not I should be worried about this. Also, how long on average, should I be expecting my HCG levels to get back down to 0?

I also read that women with PCOS miscarry more often (I think the article said something like 1 out of 4 pregnancies of women with PCOS will end in a miscarriage) is this accurate???

Thank you sooooo much for your help.

Hi, I'm so sorry about your m/c, it is true that PCOS'ers miscarry more often than "normal" women.....our risk is a bit higher, I've had 2 myself.

As for your numbers, I do know that hormone levels vary from day to day, I'm not sure if that goes for HCG also, has the doctor given any reason for the rise?

I certainly don't want to get your hopes up needlessly, but I have heard of the possiblilty of having a twin pregnancy and the HCG going down when one was miscarried only to recover and start rising again as the other twin starts to grow. I guess that could be a possibility for you.

In any case I hope whatever is going on is over soon and you can continue on your TTC journey with more favorable results....best of luck! As always I'm holding hope that this pregnancy may not be over yet.

Have you called your doctor? You might not have completely M/C, you might have an ectopic pregnancy (when the egg implants outside the uterus, which can be very dangerous). Please be seen ASAP!

Metformin in the first trimester can help prevent M/C. It doesn't always works, but it tilts the odds more in your favor.
