I was diagnosed as having PCOS 2 years ago. Before the dx drs. always said I wasn't "fat enough" to have pcos. ok, whatever. (holding sleeping daughter sorry about typing errors). the 1 gyn. who decided to test me said all my lab work was great. really low insulin #s, and all other levels normal range except for the lh/fsh which was only a smidge off. various ultrasounds showed NO cysts. however, i have 3-4 periods a year, and acne. the gyn. said that my test results don't matter since pcos is a symptomatic diorder. ummm should i get a second opinion, or is it actually possible that i have this condition. so confused.
welcome to sc hmm. from what i understand everyones pcos is different. I personally dont have any cysts any more (mine disappeared), and my blood tests show normal. could you see another dr instead??

I agree with your doc. They diagnose pcos by bloodwork and ultrasounds if possible, but many women who have it, have normal ultrasounds, and even normal bloodwork...my bloodwork is normal except for my cholesterol, and my ultrasounds are clear, but I DEFINATELY have it...it IS a symptomatic disease meaning that despite the test results, if you have the symptoms, it's safe to assume that you have it. Let your doc try the metformin and birth control to see if that helps regulate you. If you are trying to conceive, then skip the birth control and just do the metformin for a while.
