Question Confusion statement! Help!

So when I went to see my doctor today she said that I am close to being considered the "new " hypothyroid even though my thyroid tests are all normal. She simply said..thats something that we will keep an eye on. What does that mean???

I've never heard of that. Sometimes I feel like the doctors put off things they don't have an answer for by saying "We'll keep an eye on that"

I think what your doc is saying is that your TSH is close to the new upper lab range (many docs will use the lab range to determine if treatment is necessary). The old range was 0.5-5.0, and the new one as of last year is 0.3 to 3.4. So your doc may be saying that your TSH is close to 3, and if it was over that he would consider giving you medication. So many docs use only the TSH to diagnose, but there are other more important variables (symptoms, T4 and T3, and for some a TPO antibodies test)
