Default Connecticut Center For Health

I've decided that the best way for me to treat PCOS is not to experiment on my own with different natural remedies but to actually get help from professionals who treat this problem on a regular basis and who know what they're doing.

There are so many recommended supplements and therapies for PCOS that I'm completely confused. So, while browsing on the internet, I came across this website www.connecticutcenterforhealth.com They mention that they treat PCOS and they also offer phone consultations for those who cannot go to the clinic. I live in Canada so I prefer phone consultations. I go a free 20 min consultation with a woman called Keli Samuelson who I was told is the naturopathic doctor who treats PCOS at the clinic. She was very nice and told me they have a very high success rate with PCOS.

They have 30 min, 45 min and 60 min consultations costing anywhere from 115$ to 230$. You can take only one consultation or several, depending on your budget. I'm scheduled for a 45 min consultation on Oct 5th but before that they're going to send me a questionnaire of my health history and I have to fax them copies of previous tests ( blood tests, ovary scans etc).

I've been so confused as to what I should be taking, what really works and what doesn't that it's a relief that I will get help from people who treat this problem on a regular basis. I'd like to know if anyone has had any experiences with this clinic? Good or bad? They also mention on their website that if at anytime, I'm not satisfied with the treatment, that I can get a full refund. That's good to know

How did your consultation on the 5th go? Did you get some helpful advice?

I'm in CT about 20 minutes away from one of their offices & have an appointment scheduled for the 26th of October. I came across this message board yesterday & just happened to see your post. Like you, I'm completely confused about what to do & the medication that my doctor prescribed (glucophage 750mg bid) isn't helping.

I'll post how my visit goes...hope your consultation went well!

Hi, my consultation went really well. It was a phone consultation by the way and not a face-to-face consultation.

The naturopathic doctor I spoke to is Keli Samuelson...she's very nice and knowledgeable about pcos. She told me that she's not quite sure I have pcos according to my symptoms because I'm not insulin resistant or overweight and I ovulate every month.

She told me that my progesterone/estrogen ratio is out of balance and that many times this has to do with low dopamine levels in the brain which I was not aware of. She also told me that many times hormonal imbalances originate from nutritional deficiencies like a lack of essential fatty acids, magnesium, calcium, zinc etc.

So her protocol for me was to supplement with various nutrients like vitamins, minerals, 1 gram of EPO, 3 grams of fish oil, vitex, wild yam tincture and a homeopathic formula called Turska Formula which she says is very effective to get rid of ovarian cysts. I mentioned that I had used natural progesterone cream but during that time I had an increase in arm hair and she told me that she's had some feedback from women using natural progesterone cream and getting an increase in body hair which is why she put me on vitex and wild yam tincture which balance estrogen/progesterone.

The Turska formula you can't get in a health food store, it has to be prescribed by a naturopathic doctor and according to what I've read about it on the internet, it's supposedly very effective for ovarian cysts and endometriosis when nothing else has worked.

I have another consultation with her on Oct 19th but it's just a follow up consultation to see if I've found everything that she recommended. My experience so far with this clinic has been very positive and I feel much less confused now as to what I should be taking. If you have insulin resistance, she will address that and tell you exactly what you should do about. Good luck and tell me how it went!!

Your phone consultation sounds like it went very well! I'm glad that you are pleased & that the doctor explained things to you.

I'm insulin resistant & have high blood sugar despite losing 40 lbs & taking glucophage. My hair falls out, I get acne & abnormal hair growth. However, my periods for some reason have been normal since I had my son 2 years ago. My new PCM sent me for PCOS blood work yesterday, so I will have this faxed to Dr Louden. She's who I will be seeing on the 26th. I am so excited to go! I hope I finally get some answers. I'm very confused & can't wait to have someone give me some guidance.

Please let us know how your follow up consultation goes!

I went to the Naturopath today. She was so nice & very thorough. She spent about an hour going over my medical history. I had my gynecologist & my new APRN fax over my blood work history prior to my appointment. She said my blood work results are not that bad. My overall glucose level is better since I started taking glucophage 2 months ago & the PCOS stuff isn't that bad, either. She thinks what happened was I had a very difficult pregnancy, then I breast fed my son for 15 months, then I lost 40 pounds....she thinks my body is completely depleted of amino acids & nutrients. Even though I recently started taking iron & my iron levels are higher, since I've had a chronic problem with anemia since I was in my late teens she thinks my body has not gotten chance to store any proper levels & that's why my hair falls out. She gave me a high-quality fish oil to take twice a day (tested for lead, mercury, etc). I also need to eat soy twice a day (tofu, tempeh, soy milk, etc), green tea twice a day instead of coffee (which just aggravates my liver & kidneys- I already have problems with both) and organic flax seeds that I should buy whole & grind myself & use on salads, in yogurt, etc. She also thinks my adrenal glands may be stressed & may test my various hormone levels next time. For now she wants me to focus on this. For once I feel hopeful about what a doctor has told me. I'm very happy that I went to her. She thinks it will be a few months before I start to feel better & if I don't feel better she may also test me for food allergies. She also told me to continue taking my calcium, multi-vitamin, milk thistle, etc...overall it was a great experience & I'm very glad that I went. It also cleared up a lot of my confusion about what was going on with me....

Hi,

I'm new to the message board and find your experiences interesting.
I have been taking glucophage and clomid, but have not been successful in ovulating. So i thought it was time to try alternative remedies.
Have either of you taken glucophage and clomid while using other natural supplements?
It sounds like it would be worth checking out the clinic in CT.

Thanks!
lisa

Hi Lisa,
Welcome to this message board. I'm fairly new as well, and I really like this Alternative remedies section. It may be a good idea check out some Naturopaths that you may have in your area. They can help you figure out what specifically may help to get you ovulating based on your medical history & blood work. I'm pleased with my experience with Connecticut Center For Health and I hear they are able to help women with fertility problems & various other health issues. Who knows, you may have a Naturopath in your area that your insurance may cover. I was both shocked & happy that my new insurance covered my visit...my old one didn't. Good luck!!
