I'm on metformin (started Dec '07), and waiting to take my first round of Clomid. My last AF was at the end of February, and before that it was February '07. My periods haven't been normal in a few years (brown looking, some 2 days, some 9 days, etc). This morning I noticed a tinge of brown on the toilet paper, but I didn't notice anything this afternoon. Should this count as CD1? What if it just continues a light, infrequent, brown cycle-- should I still take the Clomid on days 5-9 or wait until I start getting a healthy cycle?

Any help is appreciated! The doctor made it sound easy "oh yeah, bleeding day 1 is CD1..." but he doesn't realize that nothing is easy with me--- I can't even tell if I'm bleeding!

9/19/08 = CD1
9/29/08- 2hr Glucose test, HSG (all clear!)
Next Cycle: 100mg Clomid & IUI

well my dr said count CD1 as the first day of all day bleeding, but then he also said if i didnt get the full on AF or AF at all to take the clomid anyways because it can still work, he said theres no point in just wasting months. so if you dont get AF full on i would ask your dr if you could take it anyways because it can work w/o getting AF first. there are some ladies who got pregnant that way.

I take provera to get a period if I don't get one on my own (which I never do). I also have a sporatic day where I'll have some brown spotting but then never get a full period. I would ask your doc before just taking the clomid b/c the lining of the uterus thickens and being that you don't get a period regularly to shed that lining, you don't know how thick your lining is right now. If the lining gets too thick it is not conducive for an embryo to implant. That is what my RE told me.

CD1 is the first day of flowing red blood where you need a pad or tampon. I don't think you should count that as day one..it could be your body gearing up for AF...did you ask for something to induce AF??

Ok- I'll just wait because it's not consistent and definitely not heavy/regular. My Dr didn't prescribe anything to induce AF- and at the time I didn't even think about the fact that in order to take Clomid I'd need AF first. If I don't get AF with just my Met this month- then I'm going to call him about provera or something to bring on AF. Thanks, ladies!

I would definetly call and ask about provera or prometrium. It's good to "restart" your cycle before starting clomid because it resets your hormones as well.
