 Considering Guatemala? Read this, please!
Hello, I have adopted my Son from Guatemala. It has been a rewarding experience overall. However, that is not why I am writing this.
The country is currently closed to new adoptions. I have heard of and spoken to a few families that are working with agencies to start new adoptions. This is a very risky time for the families already in the process, to complete their adoptions, and emotions are running high right now. However, reputable agencies should not be giving out any referrals, or leading families to believe that the process will be starting up anytime soon. Please beware if you are being told these things from your agency. There is a ton of information out there from the Department of State and on many adoption agency’s website. Please do your research, before giving any agency money towards future adoptions in Guatemala.
On a positive note, once they do reopen. I do believe that Guatemala will continue to be a great place to adopt from.
