I recently bought a skincare "system" called AcneFree at my local Long's Drugs. It has a cleanser, a toner, and a lotion. It uses the same ingredients as ProActive but costs about half. I am very happy with it.
I would check the large drugstores in your area. If they don't have it, you might ask them to consider carrying it.
I recently found another skincare line that I am very pleased with. It is called MyChelle. I have extremely sensitive, oily skin and it has been very good. And, it seems to work well with the AcneFree. I get the MyChelle at my local health food store.

I've had acne for years, from my chest, face and back. Years before I found out that I had PCOS. I tried almost everything. Even Proactiv, but it didn't seem to do it for me. I tried the Arbonne system from a friend and fell in love with it. I couldn't believe how well it worked! That stuff is AWESOME! Huge difference. There is a whole acne line or an enzyme mask that I really like. I liked it so much, I decided to sell it. So if there are any questions, just ask me. I would be more than happy to help.

I used a generic version of Proactive. I have sensitive skin so I had to stop. My skin was the best it had looked in a long time but I had to go the dermatologist and get steriods to heal my face afterwards. I got a chemical burn on my face which was like having a bad sun burn and my skin was so dry it hurt to talk. I had a friend who used it and swore by it which is why I finally decided to try the product.
I can't recommend it but then again, I have sensitive skin.
I now use Cetaphil with the blue label, not the one with the green strip on the lable. I follow that with Oil of Olay acne treating toner with salicylic acid. I then use an moisture control lotion for sensitive skin by Oil of Olay. I couldn't find an SPF 30 but this has a SPF 15. The sun protection will help the scar from getting worse.

I was using Proactive but I had to quit my job and could no longer afford it. I then tried Wal-Mart's version and it just tore my skin up. My MIL is a sweetheart and has a plan where she gets it every month but doesn't need it that often so she ships me her extra box.
I'm sticking with the name brand and I notice a difference, but I have very, very, sensitive skin. It takes me a few months to go through one set. I only use it once a day unless it's that time of month, then I use it twice a day as directed. I've used a lot of different programs, medications and this works the most--even better than when I went to a dermatologist.

I love Proactiv. I had horrible skin all my life. I even used accutane 2 times and that helped for a while, but proactiv works great

I have had acne long-term and have tried most everything in the book. I would not recommend Proactiv. I have had the most luck with DDF (spot treatment and pumice scrub is great...but watch out for drying), although now my skin has formed an immunity to the sulfur in these products, so I switched to salicylic acid based cleansers for the meantime. Proactiv may be good for mild to moderate acne (this is a stretch), but I honestly don't think it is potent enough to do much good.
I tried Proactiv and it didn't help me at all. Not to mention that I ran out of the toner and cleanser while I still had a lot of the moisturizer left and had to buy something else until I got my new shipment in the mail.
But I have heard that it works well for a lot of people.
Proactiv made my skin so much WORSE! It actually burned my skin and I had horrible cystic acne breakouts ever since I used Proactiv for a month! The acne cysts got so infected I had to go to my doc and get on a prescription. Very painful and bad experience. I wanted my skin to clear up SO bad and this stuff worked good on my lil brother. Not fore me! I have been using Acneresponse by Loreal and it has been working! I have used just about everything and I have finally found something that works and doesnt irritate my sensitive skin!

Behind every successful woman is a basket of laundry!
I found that I could only use it every other day. Of course, that means I have a ton of it at my house (I still haven't used up the first set I got months ago--the only thing I am almost out of is the mask, and I would LOVE to get my hands on some more of THAT!).
I've had BADDDDD acne since I was 6 (yes, 6, not 16). It's gradually moved down my face (started at my hairline and worked it's way down so that now it is predominantly below my jawline on my neck). I have done everything, except Accutane ( I am not and won't be on bcp--I tried it as a teenager and it didn't work, and now I am a devout Catholic and wouldn't use it--bcp--anyway).
I know that using the Proactive too often would have messed my skin up...which is why I only use it once every other day--it's just too drying otherwise.
Rachel (anybody have some of that mask they want to sell me? LOL)
Has worked awesome for me for the last 3yrs! The cheaper stuff tends to dry out my skin...ProActive is just right. LOVE IT!
