*** I'm in Charlotte. In conjunction with the ProActive, I started using a couple of Philosophy products to help w/ this aging and hyperpigmentation business. I use the microdermabrasion 2-step process (baby skin afterwards!) a couple of times a month and I use "When Hope is not enough&copy" vitamin c, 3, soy, glutathione & peptides and also "Pigment of your imagination&copy" which is a topical skin lightener.

Most women with PCO could stand to use all 3 of these products. They last a good while, feel amazing & I've been told this year that I look younger than I did a year ago. Diet, EXERCISE & good skin care cannot be overestimated!

YOU CAN DO IT!

Proactiv has worked really well for me. However it is very expensive and I seem to go through alot of the toner. I did see AcneFree in Shoppers Drug Mart (Canada) and I may actually go pick some up. It's worth a try!

I have used The Body Shops Tea Tree facial line for about 3 years now and my acne has cleared up. They have a lotion, facial cleanser, toner, a s, and a blemish stick. They are a little costly but if you buy the Tea Tree kit you save money. I LOVE IT. Works excellent for my acne. Just thought i would pass my info along to you all.

The absolute best is Clear.now. Proactiv dries out the top layer of your skin but doesn't reach all the way into the deeper layers of skin to clear up the infections in your pores. Ultimately, that means that you still have the underlying skin problem, but it's compounded by unhealthy dry skin on the top layer.

Here's the info about Clear.now.

Proactiv only sort of worked for me, but I don't trust anything from Quixtar. The idea that sodium chlorite dissolves sebum into water and salt is ludicrous.
Wikipedia Entry on Sodium Chlorite
Sebum is made up of lipids and "debris from lipid producing cells", according to wikipedia.

It's chemically impossible to break the componants of sebum apart and get salt water. If memory serves me correctly, carbon doesn't like to give up its bonds with oxygen or hydrogen. Even if sodium chlorite dissolved the sebum into salt water, what happens to all the carbon? (The photos aren't clear enough to be convincing)

Frankly, I don't know HOW it works, on a chemical level. I do, however, know the difference in the results. I have a friend who insists on using Proactiv RELIGIOUSLY, and her skin is frightening. Similarly, I know several people who switched from Proactiv to Clear. Now, and they have beautiful skin, now. Personally, I'd rather use a product that's gonna work.

Default ProActive

Proactive NEVER worked for me. I ended up having to start Accutane but had a bad reaction to it.

Thumbs up Proactiv works, takes a while

After going off birth control I got terrible acne.
I tried everything..Dr. Brant pourless line works but it EXPENSIVE!
I tried Proactiv and it really does work, but took a month to "kick in".
I like it, but I would only use it if you have oily skin to begin with.

My only suggestion would be to be able to always have it. Anytime I run out I break out all over again and it takes me weeks to get it back under control. BUT, for me, when it works- it works AMAZINGLY!

I tried proactive when i first got acne in like 5th grade and it didnt work at all for me. But we found out that nothing worked on my acne so i ended up taking Accutane. I had very very mild acne after the Accutane so i tried proactive again and it works great for me now!

Default ProActiv

ProActiv rocks! As soon as I went off the pill, I broke out horribly. I had never--even as a teenager--had acne, and I was mortified! After about 5 months, I broke down and tried ProActiv, after I had exhausted all other options (washing my face mulitple times a day, stronger acne face washes & moisturizers, etc.). It took about a month for my face to fully clear, but it was so worth the wait. I agree with other posts that you do have to stick with it once you start because it's not pretty when you stop But you really can believe all their adds because it works.

I'd been successfully using Proactiv since 1997 or so with very few problems. Late last year, my entire face broke out in patches of red painful pimples. I ended up going to a dermatologists and she has put me on a regime. Last week I was diagnosed with PCOS, so I'll be calling her this week to discuss if myu regime needs to be changed. I had a wonderful experience with Proactiv for almost 10 years. As soon as I can get PCOS somewhat in control, I'm going right back to Proactiv!! IF $$ is a problem, you can always purchase off QVC.com or Ebay.com

I tried the melaluca a long time ago but it didn't do much for me. I have had prblems with horrible acne since I hit puberty. I mean REALLY bad acne. I have been using proactive for about a year and I have gotten compliments on my skin. Right now my acne is really bad. I need to fin an exfoliant to get rid of the dead skin. I am allergic to the one I tried and others don't get rid of the little flakes. my skin is really oily right now because of changing meds and I am getting flaky patches. I'm going to try the gentle exfoliating mask that proactive has, but I need to wait until I get paid so I can aford it.

I recently got off the pill and started having breakouts. My skin has always been really clear except for a few here and there on my chin before I started the pill 7 years ago. I have never tried Proactive, but I would like to start. However, the sales lady said that is is not recommended for women ttc. Anyone have any advice on that? Has anyone used while ttc?
