That is interesting. I haven't heard that. I would ask your doctor. I'm not TTC right now and I'm not due to go into my doc for quite some time, but that is definately a question to keep in mind. Let me know what you find out.

Thumbs up Didn't Have Acne Until Age 34...ProActiv Works!!!

I wanted to add my $.02 and hope it helps out. Basic stats first:

Never had acne as a teen, in college, through my twenties or through fertility treatments (age 30 to 34) which were completely stopped in May 2003.

Acne came in like a lion. I would call it mild to moderate.

My skin is mega-oily, even Ivory Soap couldn't dry it out.

Finally, 2 months ago after reading through this thread and watching the infomercial, I decided to go for it. I figured what the hell, I tried everything else. It was obvious a combination of the PCOS, my age and my quirky hormones.

Two months later, my skin is clear. I've had one or two blemishes around period time but putting a little bit of the facial mask sucked those dry.

I would recommend that if you get the starter kit and are using it religiously twice a day, that you buy an extra bottle of toner because it will run out before you use up the bottles of cleanser and repairing lotion.

I am totally in LUV with this system. I hope it never stops working (I know that happens temporarily for some, permanently for others).

I bought it in April. I had to go to using it once a day for the creams, it really dried my skin out. But by the end of May my skin cleared up and its been pretty good. Maybe one pimple here or there, that is tiny and disappears fast!

I've been thinking about trying ProActiv and after reading this thread I'm even more interested. One question - I don't really have acne, just REALLY bad blackheads all over my face. Anybody know if it helps with blackheads? or is it just acne?
Any help would be appreciated!!!

I used Proactive two years before I was diagnosed with PCOS. It totally cleared up my blackheads and small whiteheads. It did nothing, however, for the red hard painful cystic acne no matter how faithful i was. BUT, once i started my metformin that all changed. For some reason, the regulation of my hormones via metformin helped get rid of the cystic acne. Yet I still had problems with the small white heads. So I started the Proactive again and now my skin is clear and scar free.

Wow, I think I will try it! I have tried that AcneFree Severe stuff from Wal*Mart, and all it seemed to do for me was make my face softer.

I use proactive and have for about 2 years, I find it works great! It gives me nice smooth skin, and prevents and treats acne. My sister also uses it, and she had terrible acne, even prescription medication from the doctor was not working, and now she uses proactive every day and has no acne:-)

I love this product, had my doubts in the beginning but it really does work. I just wanted to mention that if you dont close the lid tight after using it, the product does not seem to work as good near the end, The air getting into it seems to make it less effective - just a tip:-)

I started getting major breakouts about 6 months after discontinuing birth control. I have been using Acne Free, cheap Proactive knockoff I got at Costco. It works pretty well, if I use it religiously 2x per day, which is annoying since I've never had to deal with such a facial care regimen to keep my skin clear, even when I was a teenager. Also the chemicals in the stuff act like a bleach, so now all my sheets, towels and washcloths have bleach stains on them. I'm hoping if i get my PCOS under control and my male hormones down then I won't have to deal with this anymore. I'm holding out on buying new towels and sheets until that day comes.

It can also be challenging to use during the winter because my skin is drier so if I keep using it 2x per day it gets flaky and nasty but if I don't use it at all I start breaking out again.

For the ladies asking about proactive while TTC- my dermatologist just put me on duac which also contains benzoyl (sp?) peroxide. She told me that I might have to discontinue it in a couple months when I start TTC because it could be unsafe to take during pregnancy. However, she also said that some of her patients who are ob/gyns actually used it during their pregnancies because they really don't believe that the topical treatment puts the fetus at risk. I know I wouldn't risk it though!
By the way, has anyone had luck with proactive that was unsuccessful with prescription benzoyl treatments? This duac stuff is just not helping at all. My derm prescribed it as a last resort because no topical treatment seems to be helping.

i've been using proactiv for a little over a year. it works for me, i guess. but if i skip a day or if i forget to use it, then my acne will come back REALLY fast. like i'll get two zits for every day i forget to use it or don't have time to use it. other than that, it works well. i also like the Neutrogena face wash called oil-free acne wash cream cleanser. i use it along with the proactiv, but not every day cuz my skin dries out easily.

I have been using proactiv for about 9 months now and it works perfectly for me. I know people in the past have complained about dry skin but I don't have this problem at all.

My acne problems were not a huge problem, but big enough where it bothered me, especially since I always had clear skin in the past. I mostly broke out on my chin and it was usually 2 or 3 blotches.

I began using proactiv once a day and it made my skin problems go away. I had used many different products in the past that you can find at a grocery store, but this was the only one that worked for me. I also noticed that when I stop using it for even a day, I begin to break out again.
