just wondering if this is one more thing I can chalk up to pcos. one side of my bottom lip has a wierd, chapped/almos scabby thing that comes right back even after I manage to Carmex/peel it off every few weeks.
Can anyone relate to this?

Yup, I hate this sooo much. I'm not nearly as patient as you though, I peel it all off every day (to the point of bleeding). I've tried every type of lip balm out there, nothing has helped. I hate this!

so glad to know that I'm not the only one! I'm to the point where my fiance is constantly nagging me to "quit picking at your lip"! he thinks its just some kind of wierd habit that I have! now that cannot be a thing that makes a person want to kiss you! poor man....and poor me.
For the most part, if I constantly keep Carmex on it (and I do mean nite and day) then I can keep the area from getting too hard/scaley....I did notice that while I was on BCP that my lips stayed soft, so I figured it was part of my insane hormones.
Rebecca, where do you buy pure coconut oil?

I too have this problem. I feel like my lips are always nasty, despite lip moisturizer. My sil told me that she brushes her lips with a soft bristle toothbrush every night before she applies lip balm. Yeah, that didn't work. But you most definatly aren't alone.

all my life my lips have driven me crazy - flakey, chapped. The only thing that brought any relief was picking at them and/or slathering them with chapsticks of some kind or another. Well, my current boss is also a MK consultant and she introduced me to the Satin Lips collection - a lip balm, lip masque and a cream you put on daily in the morning (I think MK designed it to maintain lipstick but it works as a great 'seal' for me) that is amazing. So my chapped lips are much less now than they have ever been - sometimes I can go a whole day without picking any part of my lip! It's amazing.
I truly love this board...I've gotten misty today over just knowing that something that SEEMS as insignificant as chapped lips, is a problem that doesn't make me an oddball. I've gone the last 5 or 6 yrs thinking that this was just another unladylike thing about myself that made me different from everyone around me. Its good to know that not only am I not alone, but its not my fault!
Much love to all my cysters!!

I noticed this went away for me about 7 years ago a few months after I started taking a multiple vitamin, another B-complex vitamin, an d vitamin C and magnesium every day.
Of course if you are already doing that and it didn't help, ignore me. But I just thought maybe the vitamins had cured something for me?! So FYI, in case it helps.
My lips still chap once in a while, but prob. as much as average?! I don't know what's average for that.
Also, best lip stuff I've found:
#1) Blistex Lip Medex (in small pot like Carmex.....but it's a blue one, and has a minty/mentholy scent). Especially great if your lips are chapped enough to be tender, sensitive, or painful. It soothes the pain as well as the chapping.
#2) Neostrata Lip Balm. It uses hydroxys to (gently, gently) help the skin cell turnover naturally, so it help sluff off the skin which is dry and chapped. It also goes on very light and smooth and not-greasy.......and it lasts forEVER.
I do take vitamins, no help there. Where do you find the Neostrata? I'd like to try that, thanks.

I use this stuff, and it works great!!!! And it last a long time, which is great for me becasue I am constantly having to buy chapstick.

I too have the sexy cracked lips!!! I have found that Avon's Dew Kiss is awesome and really helps to keep my lips moist. It is in a pink tube. I recommend it highly!

I have had chapped lips my entire life. I have always used tons of chapstick and tried a bunch of different kinds. I am not sure if its related to PCoS, but that would be interesting.
My favorite kind is Burt's Bees Beeswax lip Balm. I started using it about a year and a half ago. They have a web page www.burtsbees.com . They also sell it in some grocery stores, trader joes, and some health food stores.
I used to have to apply chapstick several times a day, if not several times an hour. Since using Burts Bees, I apply it much less often. I dont even have to apply it every day now. I have noticed a dramatic difference in my lips.
Its also not that expensive. A couple dollars a tube. Maybe something cheap to try before trying the more expensive options.
I absolutely love Avon's Care Deeply chap stick. It is generally only sold during the winter time. It comes in a white and light green tube. It has aloe in it and is wonderful! It is around $0.89 a tube, or it was last time I bought any. I purchase between 5-10 tubes at a time and keep one everywhere...purse, nightstand, bathroom, kitchen, cross-stitch basket, etc.

I use something a little different. Coppertone makes a lip balm called Little Licks. It is lip balm with sunscreen, but does wonders for my chapped lips, especially in the winter!
I too have a problem with dry lips. They are not cracked, always dry. I was always buying different kinds of chap sticks but they just rubbed off when I ate or smoked. I got a free jar(very small jar) of this at a baby shower it came with a gift from Bath & Body Works so I think they may sell it there. I'm pretty sure they have a web site or you could just call one in your area to check. Anyway I love it! Finally I found something that will stay on. You should try it. The other cysters ideas may work as well. Good Luck!
