You should probably have your blood sugar checked. Chronic yeast infections can be caused by high blood sugar.

Also, your partner, if you have one/if untreated may be reinfecting you.

Sometimes yeast infections come back because you don't have enough of the natural bacteria that would suppress the yeast. It is still a good idea to get your blood sugar checked because recurrent yeast infections are often one of the first signs of diabetes. Yeast love sugar so if there's too much in your blood there'll be too much in other body fluids as well.

This may sound terribly weird, but it is safe. Put plain natural yoghurt on a tampon and pop it in for an hour. The good bacteria in the yoghurt will compete with the yeast and get everything back in balance. It's fine to repeat as often as needed though I find that once or twice usually does the job nicely.

    1) get a fasting insulin test for insulin resistence. I had chronic infections and after 3 years of diabetes testing coming up negative, they finally figured out I had IR. With taking metformin and having that under control, I've been great.

    2) Take acidipholus. It's an over the counter 'yogart' pill.

    3) Don't use soap 'down there' you might be irritating yourself further

    4) get a rx for a 7 day yeast cream

    5) Are you on bcp?? do you use tampons when you have your period? these things can all factor in as well.

What worked for me was the 7 day cream. Then once they found the IR, my yeast infections were VERY few and far in between. When I do get one, and have my insulin tested, it is usually high and I end up having to up my meds or right now I am dieting.

oh and another 'help' is to take a cup of water and mix in a 1tbs of peroxide.

wash yourself with that.. helps you feel better for awhile!

I think I've had a yeast infection for six months, because I was itching for that long but didn't have health insurance. Two days ago, the itching got really bad so I got a vagisil screening test and found out that it was a yeast infection. I used Monistat 3 last night and it burned soo bad for like an hour! But I feel SO much better today. I would have gotten the 7 day formula but I didn't find it at the store I went to.

And I started itching after I had been given some pill for a yeast infection by my doctor back in April. I was treated for BV at the same time so maybe the two meds didn't work together?

If Monistat's not working, you might have something else. Try the screening kit from Vagisil. Hope this helps!

well there is a big dif between over the counter and rx. trust me.

If I use a tampon even for an hour ... I get a YI. Try only using pads.but first you have to treat what is there, ad get rid of it.

Gynazole. It's RX only in the US and around $40. No OTC remedies ever help me.

All of the PP's are right I had recurrent YI for years before finding out I was IR. For prevention eat yougurt and wear only cotton panties.

Yeast has to be dealt with systemically. The yogurt and meds can help with the symptoms but you're just going to continue to deal with it if you don't start treating your whole body. Yeast lives on sugar, so every time you have simple carbs and sugars you're feeding it. I'd suggest start researching candida overgrowth and look at some of the other symptoms you might be experiencing- a naturopath could be extremely helpful to you.

Hey Tina - I am in Manitoban Cyster too.

I think I tried Gynazole too it is a 1 day pill that is suppose to cure it. Well it did on day 3 after taking it. So if it doesn't feel better after day 1 wait another day or two for it to kick in.

I prefer using Monostat over Gynazole cause at least I get some relief during the 3 day treatment. Mind you there were times where I had to buy two boxes of 3 day suppositories and make the treatment a 4 days instead of 3.

I have another one starting always before AF. Last month I tried the acodpholis capsuls and inserted two of them. It worked and less messy than Monostat.

I found that sugary soap down there activates the YI or makes it worse, so I have been using dove.
