You should make sure its a yeast infection first. I had what I thought was a reaccuring yeast infection and when I finally got it checked out, it was a bacteria infection from not having my periods.

Tina - please post the name of the cream if your doctor finds something similar that is sold in Canada. I have a raging YI right now and I am going crazy!! Monistat is not cutting it this month, nor is acodophalis!!

Not sure what that pill was that I used once...it is to help cancer patients that have YI associated with cancer tx. But they use it on severe YI infections for women too...it just didn't work. It was $20 a pill and you take it once.

Tina - I was at the Shoppers on Concordia at lunch and I asked the pharmacist and she said they can get that cream in and it is about $30.00.

That name you mentioned about that pill is familiar...that has to be it.

Dynamicdoula is absolutely right, you must treat this systemically. A couple of things you could try in addition to the above information would be to follow an anti-inflammatory diet and take probiotics. My mom struggled with this for a bit and has made some changes in her lifestyle like eliminating sugar as much as possible, adding probiotics and choosing more anti-inflammatory foods. She no longer has issues with yeast.

Do they have Diflucan? It's a pill taken orally. It's one dose and Wal-Mart has the generic version for $4. This is the only thing that clears yeast infection for me as my cervix is so low, it pushes out the creams as soon as I insert them. For instant relief of symptoms, I buy the OTC 7day cream or get it from a clinic and rub it around the area until the pill kicks in. Also, eat yogurt and sleep without any underwear or anything on your lower body other than the covers if need be. I have an allergy to soaps, tissues, pads, dyes used in underwear, etc so be careful of what you are putting next to your private area.

Hope this helps!

Have the doctor prescribe you the antibiotic to get rid of it. I've had constant yeast infections too and I can't seem to get rid of them with the nasty cream so the doc gave me 2 pills that took care of it. Perhaps thats an option?

Antibiotics are actually part of the *cause* of yeast infections. Antibiotics kill off the bacteria in your body, including the healthy bacteria that lives in your gut which is a major factor in your whole immune system!

Yeast infections affect your whole system; it starts in your gut and then you get symptomatic from there. I know that I get yeast under the hang in my belly, vaginal yeast infections, and in my belly button. Gross right? But that tells me that I've not been eating well and that the yeast is in an environment where it's allowed to grow (sugary environment, simple carbs and sugary foods are your enemy!).

Diflucan (antifungal drug) is a help for the symptoms but it will not cure the problem.

From this site:

Quote:
Some of the diseases a systemic yeast infection can cause are:

• arthritis
• gout
• Chronic fatigue syndrome
• fibromyalgia
• high cholesterol
• crohns disease
• Irritable bowel syndrome
• asthma
• allergies
• acid reflux
• arteriosclerosis
• psoriasis
• eczema
• rosacea
• hives
• acne
• dandruff
• depression

Also wanted to add that I haven't used a yeast infection cream in years. I go the 'natural' route. Dip a small tampon in olive oil and a drop or two of tea tree oil (do NOT use tea tree oil undiluted!) and wear it over night. Also, PLAIN (not vanilla!) yogurt will give your outer bits some moisture and soothe the symptoms. It's really important that you don't substitute, sugary vanilla yogurt will just make your symptoms worse. Also, you can insert a clove of garlic into your vagina, wear it over night and then just 'push' it out during your morning pee. This is my regimen and it works great, and no gushy yucky burny creams squeezing out of me all night long.

I know this is kind of an old post but fwiw, I've been having YI off and on for about 6+ months now and I'm sure it's because I'm IR but anyway...something else you can try is boric acid. A NP or MD can call them into your pharmacy and they can make them or you can purchase some boric acid and get some 0 sized gellitan capsules from your pharmacy and make them yourself. Insert one capsule vaginally at bedtime for 10 nights then 1-2 per week there after. This works for yeast the is non responsive to regular treatments like vagisil, monostat and Diflucan. This will cause a wattery discharge but it's not bad. You can research this treatment online and it's a natural remedy. Just keep it out of reach of kids or pets, it can be posionous if ingested orally to them.

I have chronic Bacterial Vaginosis and whenever it clears I get a yeast infection (which I also get from having sex). All last week I was having bad cramps on my right hand side and then the burning discharge started. I did a yeast treatment and it sorta went away, but what really helps is a apple cider vinegar rinse. I just mix some in a bottle with a little water and rinse my vaginal area out and I'm good to go.
