I have been shaking/trembling for 4 months now. I also have occasional involuntary muscle contractions in my thumbs, eyebrows, and by my knees. Its the shaking that's driving me crazy, though. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat and it never goes away. Somedays I notice it even more, but can't find anything that seems to make it worse or anything. Does anyone know what this is?
My fasting insulin is high...was 52 last time I had it checked. My doctor just set up my first appointment with an endo, which I'm still waiting for. As far as I can see, shaking isn't listed as a symptom of IR...
I've heard people say when their blood sugar drops or gets too high they get a "shakey feeling." Don't know if it's the same thing. I think you should consult a doctor about this just in case.
Yeah, thanks for replying. I've heard that too, but unless my blood sugar is low all day and night for 4 months that doesn't seem to fit. I don't know if that is possible. I've seen two doctors and have gotten no answers. One thought it was stress, but I'm a pretty calm person generally. My body is stressed from being sick all the time, but I'm not sure that would cause constant shaking. I'm hoping the endocrinologist will have an answer or have a suggestion for another kind of specialist.....maybe a neurologist? I'm kinda confused.
Just to let you know I have what I was told are "benign tremors" no I can't spell benign I dont think. basically I shake, no reason.
I'm not sure what type of shaking you are talking about but mine is mostly in my hands. They tremble ALL the time. They did blood work, they did this, that, this that, and nothing. Sometimes it's just you know, you look to see if your hands are shaking and hey they are shaking. Other times I'll be eating and hubby's like hello are you okay? My hands will be shaking while holding my cup or a fork or something. Sometimes it's all I can do to get the liquid to stay on my spoon if I'm eating soup! LOL. No reason, just there.

Get a bigger spoon!!!! Haha. Well I'm glad your shaky hands is nothing to worry about. I'm sure you get tired of it, though...
My shaking is all over my body. It happened once in the summer when I had a lot of pain in my right arm and some tiny sore lumps. That shaking went away in a few days and the lumps quit hurting. The shaking came back one afternoon in December and never went away again.
The way I describe it is as if you haven't eaten for ages and get all shakey, wobbly and muscle twitches. it gets so bad that sometimes I can hardly walk and feel very weak. I can't clench my fists or pick anything up either when it's really bad.
When I eat it makes no difference at all.
It's got slowly worse over the last couple of months, I used to have it maybe once a week for a few hours at a time. Now I get it every day, for most of the time.
My doctor is currently doing tests as she thinks it may be that I am Anemic which is causing my symptoms although I won't know for 2 weeks.

oh my. You know what.....I actually asked the doctor to check for anemia and she refused because it was normal last time they checked. I said to her, "Yes it was normal last time (over a year ago) because my gyn had me taking double dosage time release pills for 2 months solid right before that test." She still didn't give me another test. The gyn had said to continue taking a daily multivitamin with iron after that and I haven't been. I forgot all about that until you mentioned anemia. crud. I hope it is something that simple! And good luck with your tests! Let me know how it goes.
My blood tests show that I am not anemic or vitamin B12 defficient. I'm still shaking constantly. The endo said if it was blood sugar related, it should go away sometimes depending on meals and such, but since it doesn't, he doesn't really know what it is. So...wow its so annoying.

Just curious - but are you on any antidepressants ?? I had a similar problem with shakes after I had been on Prozac for a while and my dosage was increased. From what I understand there is some evidence that it can build up in your system and become toxic.

LadyBlue - I know exactly what you are describing. I had begun shaking and having muscle spasms in my neck and scalp almost all of the time. I was sent for a MRI and even went to see a neurologist. Everything came back normal, even my fasting glucose and fasting insulin. I suffered with the shaking, body tempature dips and soars, migraines, and other symptoms before I found the right help. My RE finally checked my hemoglobin A1C along with my fasting insulin and discovered that my insulin was out of whack. Once I started watching what I ate and taking a multi-vitamin with calcium and magnesium, the shakes and muscle spasms went away within a few days!!! If I don't keep on top of taking my additional cal/mag, I start getting leg cramps at night so I'm pretty sure it makes a big difference for me.
