My Mood: Points: 1,414.34 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,414.34 | constipation and Met? I know this is TMI but lately I have been constipated. I started out on Met with the explosive diarrhea and it is now 1 1/2 weeks later and now I am constipated. What is going on here? I havent lost anymore weight and I am doing the low glycemic diet and excersing. What in the world is going on? Do you think I need to up my dose? I am currently taking 1000mg per day. Please any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

My Mood: Points: 8,491.88 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 8,491.88 | Add me to the list...same EXACT pattern...diarrhea the first couple of days, then constipated. The only thing I changed was I started taking the met with yogurt to eliminate the diarrhea. Apparently it worked a little too well!

My Mood: Points: 3,563.01 Bank: 2,926.83 Total Points: 6,489.84 | I have been on met for about a year now and I had the same s/e. I called my endo right away and he was shocked. He told me to take a laxative for the time being. This all occured when I was on 1500 mg. When I upped to 2000mg, I couldn't make it to work and had to use the BR at McDonalds!!! It was like instant relief! ( I know TMI!) But then after that, the constipation started again.
I started taking a multivitamin (365 woman's multi from Whole Foods) and it is the only thing that flushes me out and keeps me regular. If that doesn't work, just a strong cup of coffee does the job. Hope this helps! but now i am like clockwork!

My Mood: Points: 3,284.71 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,284.71 | I have this same s/e. I got the diahrreah for the first couple days and then I got the constipation. The only thing I can do to relieve it is drink a cup of coffee in the morning and within 30-45 minutes I can usually go.
Today I upped from 1000mg to 1500mg. I haven't had any Diahrreah yet. We shall see what happens tomorrow.
All I can say is that I would rather drink some coffee than take a laxative. I love me some coffee!

My Mood: Points: 5,410.49 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 5,410.49 | I have frequent constipation on 2000 mg Fortamet. I bought an herbal laxative tea at Whole Foods that contains Senna Leaf. It typically helps me within 24 hours. |
