I started taking D-chiro-inositol in December (when my doctor threatened me with Metformin - YIKES!) along with N-acetyl-cysteine and Alpha Lipoic Acid. I am not sure which did the trick, but taking these really made me feel better and I think even made it easier for me to get pregnant, which I did twice (once in the end of February and then again in the beginning of May). As soon as I got pregnant I stopped all supplements though, including the DCI. And both times I miscarried at about 7 weeks. My doctor thinks that the Insulin Resistance/PCOS issues are related to the miscarriages and wants to put me on Metformin and have me stay on it the next time I get pregnant. My husband has developed a theory that the supplements addressed the Insulin Resistance/PCOS symptoms allowing me to get pregnant (we've been together two years and never used any contraceptives), and then stopping the supplements caused my Insulin Resistance/PCOS symptoms to return leading to the miscarriages. Do you think that stopping these supplements could contribute to miscarraige? If so, do you think it is safe (or at least as safe as Metformin) to take these during pregnancy???
If it were me, I would go on metformin and use that while pregnant like your dr. suggests. While a lot of these alternative remedies have yielded remarkable results, their safety during pregnancy leaves a lot of question marks, and it seems no one really knows. Met at least has been the subject of studies which have shown it to be safe in pregnancy. Once baby is born, you could always go back to the alt. remedies. I was on a number of them for various things and stopped once pregnant - it's not worth the risk, IMO, since there haven't been any well-controlled studies about them.
I would go on the metformin, also has your Dr. addressed the possibility of a luteal phase defect since both your pg ended at about 7wks? I just miscarried in April and have been researching using progesterone in the second half of the cycle to help with luteal phase defect.
I agree with ttc374. I also have a luteal phase defect. I used Femaprin and when I got my bfp I stopped using the femaprin and my doctor put me on prometrium (progesterone supplements) and here I am today, 15 weeks pregnant.

Meds: Vitex (Femaprin)
Baby Aspirin=BFP on 4-20-09!
I asked about an LPD and he didn't seem to think that would be an issue. But he'll be giving me Metformin as soon as my HSG is done. He also wants me to do Low Dose Aspirin and Heparin shots...
I think I will try the Natural Progesterone Cream during my luteal phase... just in case, since it doesn't seem to hurt.
