Default Coping Check In

I wanted to stop in for a moment and check in with all the kind ladies that have expressed their kind concern and prayers for the loss of our child.

Just this Monday we returned to the Peri to have a 2 week follow up. Apparently all is pretty well with my body at this time. "Normal " as things are with PCO. They gave me Effexor for anti-depressant work but after 3 days of not being able to put sentences together and being completely dizzy ( I forgot my husband's name 3 times) I said heck with that and decided I'd rather be emotional than retarded all the time and stopped taking them. The pathology of the placenta revealed no infection as was suspected at the time of m/c. However, there was some clotting. The peri decided to scan for any auto-immune disorder and took 15 vials of blood. I counted. Checking for anything along those lines including antiphospholipids. Additionally, I had a rheumatological appt yesterday that was made over 2 months ago because I had mysterious and severe joint pain during my 1st trimester. I was debilitated because of it and even had to quit my job. It went away, also mysteriously, in my 2nd trimeseter just weeks before the miscarriage. I was thoroughly examined and the rhuemotologist stated that he THOUGHt that the pain was the result of an acute and severe case of infectious arthritis. He also stated that it may have been caused by the HUMAN parvo virus. Also called "fifth's Disease" as in older times it was often the "fifth" rash a child acquired from his schoolmates after chicken pox, measles, mumps etc. As with these other types of virii it usually runs its course and disappears leaving your body with an immunity. There was blood drawn in the rheumo office to scan for the virus remains to confirm or deny his thoughts on this.
I asked the Rheumotologist if this illness could have caused my miscarriage and he stated that it very well could have been the direct reason but states that cautiously not being an OB. He also wants to review the results of the peri's scans of my blood.
I have never had any childhood diseases like chicken pox or measles so this virus could very well have found a likely victim. When questioned, the rheumo stated that this type of virus is just floating around out there. Most often found in schools and children. It has no relation really other than the name that I know of ( I am still researching) to the canine version of Parvo that you have all heard of no doubt.
I hope that this information proves useful to someone somewhere. Thanks for listening.

Jill

I just wanted to say I am SO sorry for your loss.

I am not an expert by any means but I think I remember some posts about fifths disease and how it can cause a MC. This is something that you should talk to your Peri about.

Again I am so sorry...your in my prayers.

Hi Jill...i'm 'glad' you got some answers from your doc. As for the parvo virus (5th) i'm immune to it cuz i've been exposed to it after 18 years working with preschoolers...but let me tell you the 1st week of my preg i was exposed to it again and got tested just in case.

It is definately something to be aware of...even though you dont feel sick it does affect the baby...for a child to have 5th they are sick but in no danger really...they look like their cheeks have been slapped...really red looking, fever, irritable, generally not well...but its viral and...doesnt need any kind of antibiotics...(i dont think

i'n not sure if doctors routinely test for immunity but it is definately something to ask...especially if your exposed to children

And if you have kids in school make sure the teacher knows your pregnant early on so she can inform you right away if there is exposure in the classroom...

young children in schools will often get things like coxackie virus, (handfootmouth disease) scabies, stuff like that which i dont think is harmful to a fetus...but definately 5th disease has the potential. At my school we post warnings to parents if 5th is present...and if teachers arent immune they're put on sick leave

though this probably doesnt make it ay easier for you... now that you've been exposed you're probably immune to it next time...its awful to learn things the hard way....i've been there too..........
take care
