Question Copulence - Oprah's Friday Show

did anyone see this show on friday?

it was a really interesting show on what women want sexually and the laws of attraction. the part that fascinated me was about something called copulence. apparently science has discovered that women while they are ovulating secrete a scent that attracts men.

this made me think about what that means to a woman who has pcos. throughout my life i've wondered why i've had such bad luck with men. i'm reasonably attractive, funny, smart, friendly. i have lots of friends of both sexes and yet i rarely attract dates and my marriage failed because my husband cheated numerous times.

i rarely have a period -- maybe three to four times a year, meaning i have less copulence floating around me throughout the year..... interesting, huh?

i can't help but wonder if my problems with love have nothing to do with who i am but more with a problem of basic chemical attraction.

did anyone else here see this show? just wondering!

I saw it. The chemistry stuff makes sense to a certain extent, but I don't know how much I buy into it. I was on birth control when DH and I met and the first 5 years of our marriage, and yes, when I went off, our relationship has gotten much much much better...but I'm not really buying into the theory that we're doomed...which is kinda the sense I got from the show. (We actually first met online, so I guess that throws chemistry out the door completely.)

I do agree that being found desirable is almost as good as the big o (and not o for ovulation!)

But all in all, I thought it was a little depressing for those of us who don't/can't ovulate easily.

I have to agree with the PP and say I am not sure I buy into this at all. Looking back I have had pretty good luck with men. Not saying every relationship was great or perfect, but I never really hurt for a man.

I met DH 9 years ago, and I think even back then I didn't ovulate and I have never felt like our relationship has changed once I started to O again.

I am sure pheromone's etc have something to do with it, but I don't think it's big enough to make anything a deal or no deal type situation. I hope that made sense..lol. Just my two cents

Wink

This is very interesting. When I was about 30 lbs heavier I couldnt keep the men away! Even with no AF! I guess that I pulled the weight issue off pretty well then.

When I lost a considerable amount of weight no one would look at me. I put back on about 10-15 lbs and then men began to notice me again. This is my wild guess, but I think the higher my testoterone levels were, the more phermones were being put out there...

AF and O'ing have never been frequent enough for me to assume that (Oprah's show)) this may be true. I think it's based on physical/chemical attraction first, then being practical in the choices we make for a partner. Let's face it, some guys just don't have good intentions regardless of how good of a woman you are.

Most of the guys I met during heavier times ended up being bad news in the end. I am currently seeing someone who loves me during my in between stage; weight gain and whacky AF cycles. I don't think there was any O'ing going when he approached me for my number! LOL!
