Question Coral Calcium?

Has anyone tried any type of the coral calcium? I'm thinking of using it instead of my prenatal vitamin and supplementing it with some folic acid. I'm tired of always feeling so tired.

Someone posted a thread once that debunked the coral calcium "myth." I don't know anything about it personally, but you may want to do a search. I can't seem to find it now, but it may be worth looking for.

I did some digging, and found this...

Coral Calcium article

Quote:
...There has been little or no good research on coral as a source of calcium or as a treatment for disease. But that doesn’t stop the marketers from making their claims, since dietary supplements are virtually unregulated. You have no idea what’s really in the bottle or if the stuff is safe. Historically, calcium supplements haven’t always been safe: years ago calcium carbonate from bone meal or oyster shells, for instance, was used in some supplements—but was later found to contain high levels of lead. Since then the government and manufacturers took action to reduce lead levels in existing calcium supplements. But new supplements can go untested.

...Words to the wise: Yes, Okinawans tend to live long healthy lives and even inspired a bestselling book, which we discussed in 2001. Here’s their secret: a diet based on fruits, vegetables, and grains (with an emphasis on whole grains), plus fish, small amounts of meat and poultry, moderate alcohol intake (if any), no smoking, and lots of hard work and exercise—not coral calcium. The researchers who did the Okinawa Centarian Study have issued a position paper about coral calcium, which dismisses the claims.
The bottom line? Well, I wouldn't give up my multi in favour of this highly dubious supplement.

PLUS.... when you supply your body with high levels of a supplement or just getting an unbalanced amount of one or two minerals... that can cause other minerals in the body to become unbalanced which will cause more harm than good... I believe all minerals play an important part in the quality of life and health BUT!!! Make it work through proper balancing.... find out what mineral is supported by the other one.... same with vitamins... I hope this makes sense to you.
