I've read alot of stories, alot of info onother websites about PCOS, but what I have never been able to find is, what is the monetary cost of infertility?
Me and hubs work for the same company, that offers no coverage of fertility treatments. And being in a small town, don't know of anyone that has gone through with fertility treatments to ask, how much do they really cost?
Everyone says 'alot'.... but is there anyone here that would be willing to go further.
I have a lot of questions about the costs.... wondering if any canadians can help answer? americans are allowed to, gives a good cross range of numbers!
How much do injectables cost? What are the normal things that you have to do while on injectables (ultra sounds, blood tests). Do you have to pay for each doctor visit... how much? do you pay for each ultra sound and blood work... and how much do they cost?
What about IUI and IVF treatments?
I might be freaking myself out here, having started Met only 3 weeks ago.. but I want to be prepared, and know what we might be heading into.
I think we spent about $65000 + on infertility treatments in less than 4 years.
We got pregnant twice both times we miscarried. The second time was due to negligence.
IUI's cost approx. $300 a shot.
IVF can run you about $10000 with medications.
One of the most feasible procedures for women with PCOS is IVM. There are no meds so it can save you alot of $$$.
If you are paying for infertility treatments, make sure you find a clinic that is more than just a money mill.
Good Luck!
Thanks for the answers guys. I was jut freaking myself out not knowing. I actuall found some costs listed on the London Health Sciences Centre website, which is the closest place to me that does fertility treaments.
I just need to be prepared, even if its not for a few years to get to the point.. i just needed to know, ya know?
This can be such a broad ranged question. It depends on what you need, what works for you and what doesn't. Maybe the met alone will work for you, so it may not be much if ins covers it. Maybe you will need clomid and met. In the US, the typical cost for clomid (not convered by ins) is about $5.00 per pill (I get it for around 2.00 per pill shopping around). That is also not to bad. But, if you have to ad an iui to the mix and possibly a trigger shot (if those meds are not covered) that will start increasing the cost. Then then if that doesn't work there is always femara, which is covered by ins because it is used off label. Then it's injectables which can run thousands per month and then ivf (more thousands).
So, basically it all depends on what you respond too (or not) and how far you may have to or are willing to go.
As you can see by a pp, it is not cheap! but that doesn't mean your experience will be the same. You may luck out with just the met or met/clomid combo. Good luck!
